Women Athletes Who Rule!: The 101 Stars Every Fan Needs to Know (Sports Illustrated Kids)

Thanks to the Winter Olympics this year, both of my girls really got into, especially rooting for the women athletes.  My youngest daughter especially got into it and had to watch each and every alpine ski run in hopes to see her idol Lindsey Vonn ski her best run.  Bella first learned of Lindsey Vonn through a video she saw on a kids new app we use.  She learned how Lindsey hurt herself in a past Olympics game and how she fought her way back, and that people weren't sure if this was going to be her last Olympics.  Bella loved her dedication to the sport, even after all that she had been through medically and emotionally. And, Bella wanted to cheer her own, even if it was from the couch...and, that she did.  Each and every time Lindsey Vonn appeared on the television Bella went crazy yelling and cheering her own.  Even during interviews she was rooting for her -- that is how psyched she was for this popular women's athlete.

And, before the Winter Olympics, the girls got excited for the US Women's gymnastics team.  They had been doing gymnastics at a local gymnastics center for the past couple of years, but it wasn't until they saw the talented gymnastics who made it to the Games show off what they could do, that my girls started taking their gymnastics training more seriously, as they hoped to maybe one day make it to the Olympics, or at least to a regional competition and win a medal.  I told them never to give up on their dreams, and look to these amazing women athletes they see on television who are making their dreams come true, and what they can achieve through hard work and dedication.

I can't wait for the Women's Softball to be on television to share with the girls, as they have started to show interest in this sport, too, and I know they will be just as excited as they were with the gymnastics and skiing they watched on the Summer and Winter Olympics, when they see these talented women show that girls are tough and talented just like their male counterparts.

And, thanks to a new book released back on June 5th, I get to share more amazing women athletes with my girls.  "Sports Illustrated Kids: WOMEN ATHLETES WHO RULE!" (geared towards girls 8+) if chock full of fun facts and full color pictures of top athletes from today and years pasts.  As you flip through this book, the fifth in the "Big Book of Who" series from Sports Illustrated Kids, you and your daughters will be amazed at all the talented women athletes and all that they have accomplished.  There are a total of 101 women athletes profiled, and will get your girls excited about sports and doing their best when it comes to sports and even other parts of their daily life.  This book is an affirmation that girls and boys are alike and that with hard work and dedication they can achieve greatness in sports or whatever they put their mind to.  The women athletes featured in this book broke barriers and paved the way for young girls like my daughters to follow in their footsteps and dream big.  I will definitely be picking up the other books in the Big Book of Who series to share with my girls, as they really enjoyed this book, and I loved how the facts, bios and more of each women athlete was presented.  It was a fun read to enjoy with my girls, and one my girls and I will be reaching for time and again.
