A Wholesome, Fun-Filled Major Motion Picture

Were you a fan of Hunger Games?  Well, what about Honey Games?  What is that you ask?  This is a fun new movie featuring everyone's favorite bee, Maya the Bee.  Maya The Bee 2: The Honey Games is now available on DVD and Blu-ray, as of May 1st, and makes for the perfect family movie night.

Maya's hive takes inventory of their honey supply and realize they don't have enough and something would have to be done so they can survive.  As the same time, they are asked to participate in the Honey Games, where they have to give up half their honey supply.  They have a low honey supply, so they know that giving up half for the games isn't possible.  What are they to do?

Maya and her friend Willy heads to Buzztropolis to ask the Empress to use their honey instead.  Maya is told that she can keep her honey if she wins, but if she doesn't then her hive has to give up all their honey.  What will Maya do?  Will she represent the hive and win the Honey Games to keep her hive's honey supply?

This movie, which is perfect for kids of all ages, is a perfect family-movie night movie.  We ended up watching it the other day after doing a pollinators class at a nearby nature center.  The girls learned about bees and their role as pollinators and how they make honey.  Having this background, made for a fun family night.  We ended up sampling different types of honey and made a granola bar with honey.  And, while the girls were waiting for the movie to start (we were waiting on Daddy to come home from work), I sat with them and shared these wonderful Maya the Bee 2 Study Guide sheets, which you can download and print off.

As you can see these study sheets including a background on bees, as well as a fun coloring sheet and movie strip activity.  My girls really liked these activity sheets, and it got them even more excited about the movie.  Once my husband arrived home, we sat down and watched this movie.

We really enjoyed this movie, and we were able to talk after the movie about some of the lessons shared including making new friends, teamwork, and never giving up.  It is always nice when we can watch a movie and talk about it after and how the girls can apply some of the lessons from the movie to their own life and character development.

So does Maya and Team Poppy win and get to keep their honey?  You will just have to pick up this movie and watch with your family to find out.  I will say that the movie will have you on the edge of your seat and engaged from start to finish.  We can't wait to watch it again soon.
