Who doesn't love coloring? It seems like coloring is all the craze right now for both kids and adults.  My girls love coloring and have some great coloring books that they pull out and do with their markers and colored pencils.  I love joining in and spending quality time with the girls, adding color to beautiful illustrations and making them pop off the page. And, there are times when I am not in the mood to watch television or read a book, and instead grab one of my adult coloring books and color for a bit.  Coloring is so relaxing, and you can really get lost in coloring, as you want to finish the picture you are working to admire.  Another fun thing that I did recently with one of my mail swap groups was start a coloring page and then mail it to other swappers all around the United States.  We each took turns coloring in a section of the picture.  And, then when it was finally done, the last person who received the coloring page uploads a photo for the whole group to admire.  It was really a fun swap and one I hope to do again, especially with a nice festive holiday scene.

But, in the meantime, I am enjoying coloring with the girls with three new coloring/story books we received from the folks at Cider Mill Press.  If you are fans of the classic stories -- Peter Rabbit, Velveteen Rabbit and The Wizard of Oz, then you will want to pick up these new coloring books to share with your child.

"Color your way through the enchanting world of Beatrix Potter’s most beloved characters in this charming new coloring book, featuring the celebrated artwork of Charles Santore!

From Mr. McGregor’s vegetable garden in The Classic Tale of Peter Rabbit to the clever rescue attempt in The Flopsy Bunnies, each page of The Peter Rabbit Coloring Book is filled with lovable critters and enchanting scenery for you to fill with color. Featuring beautiful black-and-white artwork from award-winning illustrator Charles Santore, this coloring book features Beatrix Potter’s most popular classic Peter Rabbit stories: The Classic Tale of Peter Rabbit and The Classic Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies!"

"Bring the Velveteen Rabbit to life in vibrant color in the enchanting new coloring book edition of The Velveteen Rabbit, featuring the award-winning artwork of Charles Santore!

Originally published in 1922, the Velveteen Rabbit is a treasured classic that has warmed many hearts for decades. Now, the same magnificent artwork that has turned the hardcover classic edition into a beloved bestseller has been transformed into a charming new coloring book. Children and adults alike will be swept up in this uplifting story as they color in the brilliant black-and-white illustrations by Charles Santore!"

"Lions and tigers and coloring books, oh my! The Wizard of Oz Coloring Book lets you bring Dorothy’s iconic red shoes to life as you color in the black-and-white original illustrations of award-winning illustrator Charles Santore!

Whether you love the book or the movie (or both!), The Wizard of Oz is a classic story cherished the world over. Now children and adults alike can use their imagination to bring vivid color to Charles Santore's original black-and-white illustrations in this delightful new coloring book. "

Like I said, this is both a coloring book and a story book.  So, it is like you are helping the illustrator by adding color to the pictures.  Then, once you are done coloring all the pages, you can go back and enjoy the classic story and admire your great coloring skills. :-)

Right now we are working the Velveteen Rabbit coloring book.  I first started by sharing the classic story with the girls, as they were given a copy of this book when they were born by my parents, along with their own Velveteen rabbit to snuggle with.  I also found the movie of this story streaming online and shared it with them.  I hoped that by sharing the story and movie in advance it would give inspiration to the girls to help with their coloring.  My girls enjoyed the story and love being able to add their personal style and favorite colors to the illustrations.  By next week we will be done with the coloring and can't wait to snuggle up on the couch with their Velveteen rabbit plush toys and enjoy this book together.   And, when we are done with the coloring book we will be starting on Peter Rabbit.  I also have the original story and a movie pulled to share with the girls.

In addition to these coloring books, the folks at Cider Mill Press also has a "The Night Before Christmas" coloring book, that would pair great with the classic book, and enjoyed on Christmas Eve with your children, as you sit around the Christmas tree sipping on cocoa in new warm pajamas, waiting for bedtime.
