Bob the Builder Returns to PBS with a New Look and Taking the Iconic Series to a Whole New Level! (Review)

Disclosure: I was sent promotional items and access to screener episodes from the vendor in order to share an honest review.  All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Ready for a song to be stuck in your head?  Here goes..."Bob the Builder, can he build it? Bob the Builder, yes, he can!"  I could continue singing the theme song to this popular kids animated series, but I will save from getting it stuck in your head, as it has been in my head for the past few weeks, thanks to my girls watching the show again.

Leave it to PBS Kids to bring back this iconic kid's series, with a fresh new look thanks to updated CGI-animation.  If you have little ones who were fans of the previous Bob the Builder series, or they just like to build things, then you will want to make a point to tune in daily to PBS to watch the new Bob the Builder series.  Here in CT the show airs each morning at 7:30AM, which is perfect as my girls are early risers and have already been up at least an hour (ugh!) before it airs.

We recently had the opportunity to watch the first two episodes of this soon to be hit animated series before it debuted on PBS back on November 7th.  I didn't tell my girls what they were sitting down to watch, but as soon as they saw Bob in his yellow construction hat, they knew, and they both had big smiles on their faces, as they sang along to the catchy theme -- which to this day, I still can't seem to shake.

If you are unfamiliar about this series, here is more about the newly reimagined Bob the Builder series, which airs on PBS (check local listings for specific times)  and includes the voice talent of Downton Abbey’s Joanne Froggatt as Bob’s friend Wendy...

"The iconic kids character Bob the Builder is returning to PBS in November (check local listings for specific dates and times) with beautiful, updated CGI-animation, a brand new look for the series and its namesake, Bob, and Downton Abbey’s Joanne Froggatt voicing one of the lead roles--Wendy.

The new-look Bob is still the same Bob that audiences know and love. His denims might have been replaced with a hi-vis jacket but his chunky boots, yellow hard hat and checked shirt all remain, ensuring TV’s best-loved builder remains just as recognizable as ever. With his trusty tool belt now jam-packed with all manner of handy kit, Bob is ready to go - no job is too big or small for Bob and his team, as they approach every job with positivity, enthusiasm and their catch phrase “Can we build it? Yes we can!”  Bob and his team, including business partner Wendy and teenage apprentice builder Leo, work across the bustling metropolis of Spring City and nearby town of Fixham.

Bob’s crew of talking vehicles includes digger scoop, digger/dumper Muck and mobile crane Lofty.  And the show’s young viewers are made to feel like part of the team too as they follow their fun stories which bring construction to life.  Bob the Builder has been exciting and engaging millions of youngsters all over the world for the past 16 years, teaching teamwork and valuable life lessons through his entertaining antics.  However the new-look Bob is set to take this iconic series to a whole new level!"

In addition to being sent links to watch the first two episodes, I was also able to surprise my girls with fun Bob the Builder inspired screening party goodies which included a yellow construction helmet just like Bob and Wendy wear, as well as Kinetic Sand Construction Zone PlaysetMega Blocks, Bob the Builder coloring sheets and crayons.  My girls would have been happy with just being able to screen the show before it aired, but these extra goodies made for a great screening party.

Here are some more photos I took of the girls enjoying the goodies that were sent.

It was hard to say what the favorite of the whole goodie package was for the girls, as they thoroughly enjoyed each item sent.  I was happy to see them sitting together at the dining room table sharing the coloring sheets and crayons, and then getting down on the floor to build tall buildings and structures like Bob and Wendy do.

I, for one, enjoyed playing with the Kinetic Sand Construction Zone Playset.  I can see this being a great gift idea this holiday season for both boys and girls.

If you haven't seen or felt this play sand, you will have to check it out as it really is a fun and unique sand to mold and play with. My girls continue to play with the Kinetic Sand Construction Zone Playset almost daily.  And, each time they pull out the playset, they make a point to take turns wearing their yellow hard hat. :-)

I am so happy to see Bob the Builder back on television and love the new updated feel to it.  My girls are enjoying it, too.  I have lost count of how many times they have watched the first few episodes which have aired already on PBS.  They haven't got bored yet, and love telling me what will come next...even though I know. :-)
