Henry Hodges Needs a Friend, Andy Andrews

I have been a fan of New York Times best selling author, Andy Andrews since I read his bestselling book, "The Kid Who Changed the World," which was based on a true story, a while back. So, when I heard that the author was releasing a new children's book, I had to get my hands on a copy.  And, thanks to the kind folks at Tommy Nelson, I was sent a copy to enjoy with my girls.

Here is more about "Henry Hodges Needs a Friend":

"From the author of The Kid Who Changed the World, this hilarious rhyming story, complete with charming art, offers comfort to children who often feel left out or are in need of a good friend.
At some point, almost every child struggles with feeling like they don’t fit in or are left out—just like Henry Hodges. Henry is a lonely little boy on a lonely little street who longs for a friend. One day, his mother and father take him to a pet rescue shelter and his lonely world is changed! Told in a playful rhyme with adorable illustrations, this book will be a favorite among children and parents who love dogs and, ultimately, will comfort and encourage children who struggle with feeling accepted and finding friends.
Kids will want to read this whimsical and imaginative story again and again!"
----

From the book's cover art, you can tell that Henry's new best friend will probably be a dog, and that it was.  But, getting to the point in the story where he finds his forever friend, is a treat in and of itself.  Not only is the story fun to read to little ones, but they will giggle along as Andy tries to figure out the perfect friend that would make his life more enjoyable.

As you turn each page of the book there are certain words that are bold and stand out.  My oldest, Savannah, who is learning letter recognition and spelling had fun pointing to each letter and sounding out the words.

Being a dog loving family, we loved seeing Henry meet his new furry and know firsthand the love a dog (or any animal for that matter) can bring a person, especially a child.  Once Henry found his dog at the shelter he felt the void in his life and heart filled and he was no longer lonely.  :-)  Really a cute story and one kids of all ages will enjoy.  Everyone has experienced loneliness in their lives or has struggled to make friends in a new school or neighborhood. And, this book is perfect in reminding everyone that they are special to someone and that they are loved.  God know what we need and will point us in the right direction. In this book's case, a furry friend was just what Henry needed for a happily ever after. :-)

You'll not only love the cute story, but the illustrations really help to bring this story to life.  With vibrant colors and a childlike feel to them, kids will eagerly await for you to turn the page to see what illustrations on to come, as you read this easy to follow story to them.  I see Andy Andrews has another bestselling children's book on his hand with this new release.  My girls can't stop asking for me to read this book at bedtime, and will even pull it from the bookcase to flip through and tell their own rendition of the story to their stuffed animals.

If you are looking for a cute story about friendship to share with your little one, then you'll want to pick up Henry Hodges Needs a Friend."  You'll find yourself smiling as you read through the story, while seeing Henry find the friend he needs.
