Welcome in the Holidays with a Good Children's Book (or Two or Three) from Candlewick Press

Disclosure:  I was sent a review copy from the vendor in order to write up an honest review.  All views shared are mine and mine alone.

I have shared in the past about how I love to give books as gifts, especially to children.  Always having been a fan of books and reading and knowing the importance of literacy, I make a point to always read to my girls at least once a day, as well as continue to stock their bookcases with fun new books to share and enjoy together.  And, with the holidays fast approaching, I have been busy looking for new holiday themed books to share with my girls.  Leave it to the folks at Candlewick Press to come up with a great list of festive books that would make for a fun bedtime read, or to give as a gift at the holidays.

Recently, I was sent the following holiday-themed books from Candlewick Press to share with the girls, and have to say they were amazing.  If my girls weren't in the holiday spirit prior to enjoying these books, there were afterwards. :-)

Just Right for Christmas

BB: 978-0-7636-7563-9
$6.99 ($8.00 CAN) ∙ Ages 2–5

Synopsis:

"One snowy Christmas Eve, a king buys some soft red cloth to make the perfect Christmas gift for his daughter. Little does he know that the leftover cloth will be used to make presents for many more of the kingdom’s inhabitants."

My Thoughts:

Out of all the books I was sent from Candlewick Press to share with my girls this holiday season, I have to say that this one was my personal favorite.  My girls are just starting to learn about the true meanings of holidays and this book is perfect in sharing about giving to others.  Even though the King never intended to pass along the leftover cloth to others, it ended up landing in their hands. And, instead of making something for themselves, they ended up making something for that special someone in their life.  I don't want to give too much away about who stumbles across the leftover cloth and what they make as a gift to share with a loved one, as this is what makes the whole story a joy to read over and over again.  This is definitely one book that will become a staple at the holidays and one I will share with my girls for years to come. If you are looking for just the right before to share with your kids, I would highly recommend this one...I know you'll love it! :-)

And Then Comes Christmas

HC: 978-0-7636-5342-2
$15.99 ($18.00 CAN) ∙ Ages 4–8

Synopsis:

"Evoking both winter’s changes to the world outside and well-loved traditions taking place within, here is a story to encourage readers to curl up with their loved ones and bask in the magic of the Christmas season."

My Thoughts:

This has become a favorite of my girls at bedtime, and was a perfect book to read last night as we snuggled up in bed, watching the snow outside, in anticipation of playing outside in the white fluffy snow this AM.  If you are looking for a cute book to get the kids excited about the holidays and wishing for a white Christmas, then this is the perfect book to share.

Up & Down

HC: 978-0-7636-7129-7
$17.99 ($20.00 CAN) ∙ Ages 2–5

Synopsis:

"Little Penguin misses his friend and decides it’s time to visit. Leaping off his iceberg, he embarks on a journey featuring ups and downs and ins and outs in this interactive book of  lift-the-flap opposites."

My Thoughts:

Both of my girls love penguins, so they couldn't get enough of this cute book. And, with the interactive feature, they had fun and were kept engaged from start to finish with the lift-the-flap opposites.  This is one book I find the girls reach for when they are looking to flip through a book on their own.  They love to admire the cute penguins and see the ins and outs and ups and downs simple by lifting the flaps.  Words really aren't needed in telling the story as little ones will love to make up their own.

And, although not a holiday themed book, I did want to share another book my girls and I have been reading at bedtime and enjoying, and that would make for a great gift idea this upcoming holiday season --

The Fairy-Tale Handbook

HC: 978-0-7636-7130-3
$22.99 ($26.00 CAN) ∙ Ages 5–9

Synopsis:

"Explore the amazing world of favorite fairy tales in this novelty-packed guide, which includes lift-the-flap maps, miniature books, and insider information on famous characters."

Is your child a fan of Peppa Pig?  If so, you will want to pick up the new book, "Peppa Pig: Day at Snowy Mountain" to surprise them with.

Peppa Pig and the Day at Snowy Mountain

HC: 978-0-7636-7455-7
$12.99 ($15.00 CAN) ∙ Ages 2–5

Synopsis:

"When Peppa Pig and her little brother, George, wake up one day and see that it’s snowing, they can’t wait to go to Snowy Mountain. It’s a celebration of winter sports as Peppa and her charming family have a day of snowy fun."

We are still waiting to receive a review of this book to read and then add to our growing Peppa Pig book, thanks to the kind folks at Candlewick Press.
