The Girls Had a Blast Hosting a LeapTV Party for Their Friends #LeapTV #MommyParties

Disclosure:  I received free products in order to host the LeapFrog sponsored MommyParty. The opinions expressed here are my own.

I was so excited when I found out last month that I was chosen to be a  LeapTV “Leap Into Gaming” MommyParties host.  As a  LeapTV “Leap Into Gaming” MommyParties host I would be sent the new LeapTV along with a couple of games to try out with my girls and friends.

As soon as I found out that I was chosen to host a LeapTV party, I couldn't wait to tell my girls, as I knew they would want to help me plan the party and would have a list of friends they would want to invite.  In an afternoon, we had the invite list made up, party ideas and had read up online about the LeapTV.  Now, all we had to do was wait for our  LeapTV “Leap Into Gaming” MommyParties party pack to arrive.

A couple of weeks ago, we received our  LeapTV “Leap Into Gaming” MommyParties party pack, which included the following:

·         One (1) LeapTV
o   LeapTV from LeapFrog gets kids into the action while teaching core skills across a variety of subjects including: reading, mathematics, science and problem solving. Designed for kids ages 3-8, the system uses a motion-sensing camera and controller that fits small hands. Audio instruction makes it simple for even the youngest kids to play solo or with a friend!
·         LeapTV Games
o   With a library of 9 cartridge games at launch and 100+ LeapFrog educator-approved games and videos available by year-end, kids never run out of fun! Games adapt to each child's level-starting with the most basic skills and then automatically adjusting the learning for the perfect challenge. Titles included in the Party Kit include:
§  LeapFrog Sports!
§  LeapFrog Dance & Learn

·         Valuable information to share with other parents
·         Branded Invites

The girls really wanted to try out the LeapTV as they had been seeing a lot of commercials on television about it, and it "looked really cool!"  But, I told them that we had to wait for the party, so that we could try it out when all their friends were here and get everyone's initial reaction. Then, the girls asked when the party would be.  I told them that even though I talked to most of their friends moms, that we had to send out the invites.  So, that afternoon, the girls helped me prep the invites so that they could bring to school or drop off at the neighbors.  We chose November 15th at 1PM to host the party, as I have found weekends work best for most families when setting up playdates, parties, etc.

More about the LeapTV and Its Features:

"The LeapTV video game system gets kids into the action while teaching core skills across reading, mathematics, science and problem solving. LeapTV provides access to LeapFrog’s Learning Library of more than 100 game cartridges, game downloads and videos all designed or approved by LeapFrog’s team of gaming and learning experts.

LeapFrog games draw from 2,600 skills across core subjects like reading, math, science and creativity, and seamlessly blend LeapFrog’s comprehensive curriculum into age-appropriate game play and videos that keep children learning. With LeapTV, every child can learn and play in a way that is appropriate for them. Select games in the LeapFrog Learning Library adapt to each child’s level starting with age, and then automatically adjusts the learning for just the right challenge.

The LeapTV system includes: console, motion-sensing camera, camera mount, transforming controller with wrist strap, HDMI cable, 16GB of memory and built-in Wi-Fi for downloads.

Designed Just for Kids:

Designed from the ground up for children ages three to eight years old, the LeapTV video game system changes the way children learn by combining activity and movement with best-in-class educational curriculum. With a simple and intuitive user interface, a motion-sensing camera that puts a child directly
in the game, a transforming controller that is made for classic game play and pointer control game play, plus audio prompts throughout the experience to help children navigate games and provide curricular tutorials, LeapTV is the best first video game experience for children.

Three Unique Ways to Play:

The LeapTV video game system puts learning in motion with three ways to play: body motion, pointer play and classic control.

• Body Motion: Children become the star of their own game. The motion-sensing camera captures a child’s moves and instantly puts them into the game as they explore activities like dance and martial arts. Children can run, hop and tip-toe or wave their arms to defend goals, karate-chop fast-moving blocks, scuba dive and more.

• Pointer Play: Pointer play takes pretend play to new levels of engagement. The controller transforms into a  pointer with a simple twist and lets kids snap jungle vines, slice through coconuts, swing from building to  building and more.
• Classic Control: Classic control puts fun at a child’s fingertips. They can press the A and B buttons for fast-paced gaming, or tilt and shake the controller to sled through an enchanted garden or race in a classic  kart-racing game. "

When our LeapTV “Leap Into Gaming” MommyParties day arrived, we had a house full of children -- 15 to be exact.  What was great about the kids in attendance was that none of them had tried the LeapTV or owned it, and we had a great assortment of ages, from 4-10 years old. So, when it came time to asking the kids what they thought of the LeapTV and what their favorite features were, I was able to get a variety of responses, based on age.

Before I get into what the kids and moms thought of the LeapTV, I wanted to share how easy it was to set up the LeapTV to our television in our family room.  I needed an area where there was enough dance space for the kids to move around freely.  Within a matter of minutes the LeapTV was up and running and the kids were all gathered around the television to see it.

We tried out both games that I was sent -- LeapFrog Sports! and LeapFrog Dance & Learn.  When it came to choosing their favorite game, the kids were split in their answers.  The older kids (7-10) enjoyed the LeapFrog Sports! game, while the younger crowd, including my daughters (4-6) were fans of the LeapFrog Dance & Learn.

Most of the moms also agreed with the younger crowd in that they loved the LeapFrog Dance & Learn game, not just because they loved watching their kids move and groove and knew that this game would get them more active, but also because of the educational feature of the learning games, which helped kids with creating words, learning new words and more.

I was only expecting the party to last a couple of hours, but by 6PM, I still had a house full of kids and ended up ordering pizzas for all to enjoy.  After our quick dinner break, we had one last dance off with the kids, which was filled with laughter, smiles and silly dancing.  I knew that everyone would have fun trying out the new LeapTV, but I never expected to have all the kids love it and want it for the holidays.  I kept hearing the kids ask their moms to make sure they added the LeapTV and games to their wish lists, while others talked amongst themselves about how they would ask Santa for the LeapTV and tons of games when they see him this year. :-)   Top on my girls' wish list for LeapTV games are...

LeapTV™ Nickelodeon Bubble Guppies Educational, Active Video Game
LeapTV™ Disney Sofia the First Active Video Game
LeapTV™ Disney Jake and the Never Land Pirates Educational, Active Video Game

Since hosting the LeapTV “Leap Into Gaming” MommyParties party last weekend, I have become the popular house to visit after school and on the weekends.  As the kids wait for Santa to bring them the LeapTV, they have been enjoying it with my girls, who have already mastered the two games we have.  I can't get over how many new words the girls have added to their growing vocabulary and how excited they get each and every time they ask to play with the LeapTV.  My husband has also become a fan of the LeapTV and loves coming home after work to dance around or play virtual sports with the girls, as they wait for dinner to be ready.

Have your kids asked about the LeapTV or have this on their holiday wish list?  As a parent who has gotten to experience the LeapTV firsthand and also heard great feedback from other moms who were at my LeapTV “Leap Into Gaming” MommyParties party, I would without hesitation recommend the LeapTV as a great gift idea for young children.  We have other video gaming consoles, but I am a fan of the LeapTV over these.  For one, it is easier for the girls to use, as the hand-held device only has a few buttons, and depending on the game doesn't even need to be used.  And, unlike many other video game consoles, the LeapTV was made for the intention to offer fun, educational games for kids -- try saying that about other video gaming systems and games out on the market.
