About the Show:

Disney Junior’s “Sofia the First,” which follows the adventures of Disney's first little girl princess, Sofia, who is learning how to adjust to royal life after her mom marries the king, is the #1 TV series with Girls 2-5.* The November 24, 2013  premiere of Sofia the First: The Floating Palace” became the #2 telecast in cable TV history in Kids 2-5 and Girls 2-5, and the #2 preschool cable TV telecast ever in Total Viewers and Women 18-49, behind only "Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess.” **

My Thoughts:

Since this animated series on Disney Junior first aired, my girls have been hooked.  They seem to have an internal clock that lets them know when the show is on each morning, as they will stop what they are doing, put on this Disney princess costumes and ask for me to put Disney Junior on for them.  Then, they will sit watching the show.  Usually this is the only time they are quiet. And, if someone talks or makes a noise they are quick to say "Shh, I am watching television here." :-)

We have another Sofia the First DVD, but I have to say that this new release is my girls' favorite of the two, as it contains mermaids and visits from Ariel, who is Savannah's favorite Disney princess.  In regards to this mermaid episode, a full length version originally aired on Disney Junior.

Sofia is transformed into a mermaid in order to help out another mermaid, Oona, who has gotten up in a net.  Even though Sofia didn't have to help the mermaid out, she showed courage and bravery as she jumped in and help free Oona.  Once in the water, she took advantage of being a mermaid and swims around happily.  She offers to help Oona find her way back home.  But, the evil sorcerer Cedric stands in the girls' way of Oona getting home safely. Cedric kidnaps Oona and it is up to Sofia to help bring Oona back home safely.

There were a few scary scenes that my 2 yr. old looked away on and said, "scary" but overall, this is another full-length movie you would come to expect from the Sofia the First series.  In addition to this episode, there are 3 other episodes that make us this DVD.  All the episodes share a theme, which is usually about friendship, teamwork, being courageous and brave and being kind and generous to others.

As a parent, I love this show, and had a great time viewing this new DVD release with my girls -- even if we watched it a couple times in a row.  If you have a Sofia the First fan in your house, this would make for a great Easter basket surprise, and will provide hours of viewing enjoyment, as your child builds their Sofia the First DVD collection.
