Mother's and Father's Day Gift Idea -- Loot Crate: A Monthly Geek and Gaming Subscription Service -- Review and #Giveaway

Disclosure:  I was sent a sample from the vendor in order to write up an honest review.  All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Loot Crate is a monthly geek and gaming subscription service that launched in July 2012. We currently have over 80,000 active subscribers. Each month, we ship a themed crate, which has recently included gear from Bravest Warriors, Titanfall, Attack on Titan, Star Wars, and many more.

Call me crazy, but I am getting excited about the upcoming Hartford ComicCon and Pop Culture Expo's in May and June.  I have never been to either one, and based upon what I have read about them, and the celebrities who are coming, it is sure to be a fun time for everyone in the family. :-)

I grew up in the 80's and love everything about this decade -- yes, including the styles and fads.  And, I am excited to see so many things like some of my favorite childhood television series back on television, or coming to big screen.  Did you just hear about JEM being remade?  How cool is that!  I also love being able to sit with my girls and watch My Little Pony, Pound Puppies, Care Bears and others that I grew up watching.  It is like a touch of nostalgia every day, as I get to relive my childhood, while also sharing some of my favorite childhood memories and faves with my children.

I am not alone when it comes to loving things like the 80's and pop culture.  Just look at how successful ComicCons, reunion shows, etc. are.  If only I lived in or near CA, I would so be at the upcoming Brady Bunch reunion, meeting the cast and mingling with other fans of the show. But, being on the East Coast and with little ones, I will be missing out on this.  Guess I will have to tune in TV Land to watch some old episodes to get my Brady Bunch fix. :-)

Before the girls arrived, I used to love playing video games with my husband. And, back in the day, I wouldn't be offended if you had called me a geek.  Nowadays, being a geek is "cool." :-)

And, when I am watching reruns of my favorite childhood shows, sneaking in a few video games with my husband after the girls go to bed, or taking in hit movies like Game of Thrones, Hunger Games and others, I am loving the new subscription box service, Loot Crate.

"Loot Crate is the monthly gear and swag club for those that live and embrace the geek and gaming lifestyle. Loot Crate is a product discovery box, connecting our subscribers, known as Looters, with the best new and emerging companies producing gear, snacks, toys, hardware, art, and other goodies for the geek and gaming market. Each month, Loot Crate handpicks 6-8 new items to include in the box, which are kept secret until the boxes are delivered!
In the short time since Loot Crate's launch, the Looter community has grown rapidly. They even have an awesome and engaged group of members across LootCrate.com, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube!"

When I first heard about this subscription service, I was surprised at how many active subscribers they have.  This was the first time I was hearing about it, and thought with 80,000 subscribers, I would have heard about it earlier.  But, thankfully, I am in the know now, and was recently given the opportunity to review the April Loot Crate box.

I don't know who was more excited for the box to arrive -- my husband or myself.  He is a huge fan of Dragons, which was the theme of this month's box.  Also, he likes the little vinyl collectible figures that have become popular featuring popular characters from shows and movies.    Prior to receiving this month's box, I had talked about Loot Crate with my husband, who had also never heard about it, and showed him the following photos of past monthly boxes --

March's Box

February's Box

January's Box

My husband would have went crazy for this box from Sept. 2013...the animation box

As you can see, you get some great toys and goodies in each Loot Crate box.  And, the recent April Loot Crate was no exception.  Just look at what I received in the sample box sent to me...

Included in the box was the following:

  1. Elder Scrolls Online Exclusive Figure from Symbiote Studios & Bethesda
  2. Game of Thrones Mystery Mini from Funko & HBO
  3. Dragon Jerky from Harcos Labs and Loot Crate Labs
  4. Dragon Shield Screen Cleaner from Loot Crate Labs
  5. 20-Sided Stress Dice from Loot Crate Labs
  6. 20-Sided Polyhedral Dice from Loot Crate Labs
  7. Dragon Slayer Tag from Loot Crate Labs
  8. Plus, a bonus Dragon Collectible Pin from Loot Crate Labs
All of this for only $13.37/month + $6.00 S/H (if you bought month to month; it would be cheaper if you bought a 3- or 6-month recurring membership). Also included in the box was a Loot Crate issue, in this case, titled Dragons and numbered issue 009.    Everything you ever wanted to know about dragons and then some is included in this special Dragon issue.  There is even a Game of Thrones trivia piece, as well as an interview with YouTube celeb, Panser of Trade Chat!

After reading through this issue and seeing the toys and products included in this month's Loot Crate box, I can see why so many people are active members.

My husband ended up taking the two figures to work for his desk, while Savannah snatched up the Dragon tag necklace.  I, on the other hand, put the dice on my office desk, and have found myself playing with them when trying to relax.

I am eager to see what will be included in next month's Loot Crate Box, so I will have to sign up soon not to miss out.  Want a chance to try out this popular subscription box service?  Then, read on to learn about my giveaway of May's Loot Crate Box. :-)
