DCONSTRUCTED The World's Hottest DJs/Producers Remix Disney Repertoire Now Available to Own on CD -- Review and #Giveaway

"Walt Disney Records recently released DCONSTRUCTED, a comprehensive compilation of classic and current music from the longstanding Disney catalog remixed by today's hottest DJs/producers from across the globe, on April 22nd. The 14-track collection features reworks of material from the multiple Academy Award®-winning films The Lion King and Frozen, as well as two of Daft Punk's contributions to TRON: Legacy.

EDM superstars Avicii, Armin Van Buuren and Kaskade are among the electronic dance music luminaries that have lent their formidable skills to these timeless favorites. The reworked material ranges from more recent heartwarmers from Monsters University, The Incredibles, and The Muppets to beloved and lasting sounds from the Hawaiiannette album featuring the beloved Mickey Mouse Club darling, Annette Funicello, Toy Story, Sleeping Beauty, Dumbo, as well as music inspired by the original Mickey Mouse cartoons, and the enduring theme from the Disneyland Park's Main Street Electrical Parade.

The blending of the orchestral world of Disney with the synthetic sounds of the electronic world brings out fresh flavors. The recognizable cries and roars of The Lion King's "Circle Of Life" mix headily with Mat Zo's growling basslines and razor-sharp synth stabs. Daft Punk's abbreviated "Derezzed" is freshened up with vocals courtesy of Negin and extended with Avicii's twinkling rhythms. Similarly, the previously unreleased Japanese Popstars Remix of Daft Punk's "Fall" stretches out that track's inquisitive beats with layers of echo. The newly minted Oscar® winner for Best Original Song "Let It Go," is transformed to a peak-of-the-night banger with Armin Van Buuren's tranced out take on Idina Menzel's sparkling vocals.

Says Van Buuren, "I feel incredibly honored to have remixed an Oscar-winning song—though I didn't know that yet when I started."

"My first remix of Daft Punk's TRON: Legacy was so long ago, but it was a significant moment of recognition in my career," says Avicii. "It's great to be a part of it again, to refresh the track, and to let everyone hear Negin's voice."

The makeovers of these universally appealing songs show off their renovations the most when the sounds from over half a century ago are brought to the present time. Stonebridge takes inspiration from the immutable Mickey Mouse cartoons for his new track, "Hey Pluto!" which takes Mickey's identifiable squeak and Pluto's barks and uses them as sound effects for the track's creeping shuffles. Snippets of Sleeping Beauty's carousel-like "Once Upon A Dream" are interspersed through Trion's tweaked out remix and much of Main Street Electrical Parade's feelgood vibe is maintained for the updated Extended Mix. Kaskade's crafted approach to Dumbo's sentimental "Baby Mine" maintains the original's emotions bringing those to the present time with softly rounded beats and gently building house rhythms."

My Thoughts:

When it comes to music, I am a fan of all genres.  From pop to county to oldies and even jazz, I love it all.  And, once the girls arrived, I became a fan of kid's artists as well as family bands that play wholesome music the entire family can enjoy and not feel embarrassed to listen to together.

In addition to songs from popular artists from today, I am also a fan of movie soundtracks, especially those from Disney movies.  So, when I heard the buzz a few months back about Walt Disney Records releasing a new CD, "DCONSTRUCTED" the end of April, I had to reach out to my Disney contact and inquire about it. Not only did she sent along a review copy for me, but she also offered to send two lucky readers a copy of this new CD, too.  Read on to learn more about the giveaway and how to enter.

Back when I was in college, I used to love going to the local dance clubs not only to spend time and dance with friends, but also listen to the music.  This was my first experience in hearing talented DJ's mix tracks and put a new spin on them.  Electronic music was popular back then, and continues to be today.  Pair electronic music with talented DJ's of today and you get this new 14-track remix album, DCONSTRUCTED, which features classic Disney songs from hit movies like "The Lion King," "Toy Story" and even today's #1 movie, "Frozen."

Leave it to the likes of Avicii, Armin van Buuren, Mat Zo, Kaskade, just to name a few, to lend their talent of remixing to turn tracks like "Circle of Life" and "Once Upon a Dream (Trion Remix) into nothing you have ever heard before.  Yes, you may know the words from these classic songs, but when you pair a fresh electronic spin to each track, you are in for a real treat.

Prior to listening to this CD with the family, I ended up listening to in a few times in a row while blogging the other night.  I couldn't get enough of the catchy remixes, and found myself waking the next AM, only to sing them off-key in the shower. :-)

My personal favorite of all the remixed Disney tracks is "Derezzed" from Tron, which was remixed by Avicci featuring Negin.  Like the kids today say, "This song is off the hook." :-)  Sorry, couldn't resist.  Let's just say that this CD is one worth picking up and enjoying with the family, especially those who can't get enough of Disney music.  And, with the summer months and car trips planned, this CD will come in handy entertaining children and adults of all ages.  I can't wait to hear what you think of it, and to see which of the 14 tracks is your favorite...if you can pick just one. :-)
