    My Thoughts:

Eek!  Can you believe there are only 42 days until Christmas?  It seems like each year, once the summer wraps up, the holidays are here in a blink of an eye.  Just the other day, I took the girls to run errands and was looking for a radio station to listen to.  And, low and behold, I stumbled across Christmas music.   I thought to myself, I remember when they started playing this music right around Thanksgiving.  Now, they are playing it 24 hours a day weeks before Turkey day.  Nothing like rushing the holidays.  But, I don't mind, as I love Christmas music and could listen to it all day.  And, the girls are getting into the holiday spirit, and rang along with me to Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bells and other fun holiday songs.  And, when we arrived home, we found the upcoming Scholastic Storybook Treasures DVD, " " waiting for us.

Over the past couple of days, I have been sharing the four short animated stories that make up this new holiday release with the girls.  Like other Scholastic Storybook Treasures DVD's, this one also had the read-along feature, which I love.  I love being able to see Savannah run over to the television and point out words she recognizes, as well as the different letters in the alphabet.  As for the stories, they are just long enough to keep the girls' attention, while providing fun and educational story lines that make for great discussions later.

Even though this DVD is only 37 minutes in length for the 4 short stories, it offers fun extras that you have to make a point to check out, including a behind the scenes look at the making of Fletcher.  It was hard to say which of the holiday stories the girls enjoyed most, as we have watched this DVD half a dozen times since the weekend, and they get into each, and love talking about the different characters and stories.  As for me, I loved seeing Owl Moon brought to life, as it has become a staple in our bedtime reading.  Savannah loves pointing out Mr. Moon to me, and sharing her own rendition of the story, which is always a treat to listen to. :-)

If you love holiday films geared towards children, but that the whole family can enjoy watching together, then you will want to pick up a copy of this upcoming DVD release from the Scholastic Storybook Treasures Series.  This is one DVD we will not only watch during the holidays, but year round, as it is enjoyable and gets the girls excited to have me read such books like Owl Moon to them, after seeing the animated version.
