Synopsis:

"God gives us so many blessings. Let’s look and see all we have to be thankful for!

Alexa Grace is having a bad day, but then Grandma arrives with something special for "Grandma's Little Punky Grace"—an Ebenezer jar that she thinks is very peculiar. Grandma explains that an Ebenezer is a “stone of help” and represents God’s blessings. Alexa Grace wonders if she can fill the jar with some of God’s blessings. She goes on the hunt with her furry Newfoundland puppy and Grandma, and Alexa Grace's new blessing jar soon overflows with God’s wonders.

Filled with charming artwork, this heartwarming book is the first preschool children’s title by bestselling author Colleen Coble. The Blessings Jar celebrates the bond between grandparents and grandchildren and teaches little ones an important lesson about recognizing even the smallest of God’s blessings and being thankful for them all."

My Thoughts:

Now that Savannah's vocabulary and word association and sentence forming skills are growing, I am always looking for great books to help teach her about life lessons.  I can always count on the folks at Thomas Nelson to have a wonderful selection of books to help me teach my girls things like thankfulness, and how to express their feelings for those close to them.

I received "The Blessing Jar: A Story About Being Thankful" a couple of weeks ago to review as part of the Tommy Nelson Mommy Blogger program.  I thought the cover was cute, as a just love dogs.  And, once the girls saw this soft-padded board book, they couldn't wait for me to read it to them.  Now that they are getting older and starting to understand things more, I make a point to tell them about what I am going to read, as I review all books I am sent prior to reading them to the girls.  I told them that this book would talk about all the wonderful blessings that God has given us, including their Nana and Papa.  Having already read the book, I knew that they would love the illustrations that were done by Rebecca Harry, as they really do add to this wonderful book.  They are so life-like and can make young children relate to scenes, like looking out a window, baking with grown-ups and even playing in the leaves.

As a parent who is always on the go, I love reading books like this one, as it really makes you take a step back and appreciate what you have in your life.  God's blessings, both big and small, are all around us, and we should make a point to stop and enjoy them before they are gone.  Overall, this was a great book to help teach young children about being thankful and God's blessings, and has quickly become a bedtime favorite with my girls.  So, why not pick up a copy of this new release from Thomas Nelson to share with your little ones today?  I know you will enjoy it! :-)
