"Keep your produce fresh longer with These Produce Keepers --

These are Part of the Good Cook ProFreshionals Brand"

Since becoming a Good Cook Expert the beginning of this year, I had have the opportunity to not only share fun giveaways with my readers of Good Cook products, but have also had the opportunity to try out some great products from this amazing line for novice cooks through expert cooks.  With that being said, I am excited to share more about Good Cook's Fresh Produce Keepers, which I was sent recently to review.  With the warmer weather now here, I find myself stocking up on more fruits and veggies.  And, next week, our weekly summer CSA food share begins, where we we will pick up a variety of fruits and veggies from a local farm.  In the past, I found that if I didn't use these freshly picked veggies and fruits, that they would spoil.  And, the so-called fruit and veggies savers I had bought at local retailers never seemed to work.  I never noticed these savers keeping the fruits and veggies longer than if I had stored in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator, or out on the counter.

So, when I first saw the Fresh Product Keeper Set that the folks at Good Cook sent my way, I was skeptical about them working.  While I liked the colors and the appearance of the keepers, I wondered how they would be different from other fruit and veggies savers.  But, knowing that Good Cook offers some amazing products, I couldn't wait to try out each of the 7 fresh produce keepers.  Because I had each of these fruits and veggies in the house, I didn't have to make a special trip to the market to buy.

Using the Keepers was easy.  You simply add a , banana, asparagus bunch, and melon into their designated keepers, which makes it easy to find in the refrigerator.  I added my produce to each of the seven keepers last Monday, and continued to check out them every other day, to see if they were remaining crisp and fresh.  With a twist and turn of the lids, I was surprised to find that the produce being stored in these keepers from Good Cook was remaining fresher longer. The transparent lid containers, along with the twist and turn closure seem to keep them fresher longer -- and set these keepers apart from other products I have tried, and was disappointed with in the past.

By then end of the week, I checked in on the produce in the keepers and was amazed to find them still fresh and usable.  In the past, the other produce savers would have made the food spoil by midweek, or would leave the fruits and veggies dried out or soggy.  The fruits and veggies looked as fresh as the first time I stored them in these cute produce keepers. :-)  I am so glad I had the chance to try out all seven of the Good Cook Fresh Produce Keepers, as I would never have expected them to work as well as they did.

Since last week, I continue to use these keepers to store my produce in the refrigerator.  My two favorites are the tomato and lemon keepers, as I seem to reach for these more often.  And, with the girls and I being sick these past couple of weeks, I have been making a lot of homemade soups, including chicken noodle soup and asparagus soup (which my mom used to make when I was sick at a kid).  I bet many of you are wondering how asparagus soup would taste, or that you could even make a creamy soup with asparagus -- well, my recipe is super easy, and full of flavor.  You can serve this soup warm or chilled.  And, if you find yourself looking for ways to add more veggies into your diet, I have found veggie soups to be a great to do so.  The girls tried this soup for the first time last week, and loved it!  They had no idea is was made with asparagus. They were more intrigued with the green color of the soup, as they are used to clear broth soups.

Here is my asparagus soup recipe, for you to try with your family:

1 1/2 lbs. asparagus
3 oz. butter
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 TBSP. garlic
1 qt. chicken stock
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. freshly ground pepper
1/2 pint light cream
truffle oil (optional)

Directions:

1. Rinse the asparagus and cut into 1-inch pieces.  Discard bottom of woody stems.
2.  In a Dutch oven, melt butter, then add onion and garlic, cooking until ttranslucent.
3.  Add chicken stock and asparagus pieces.
4.  Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
5.  Simmer until asparagus is tender, being careful not to overcook.
6.  Remove a few pieces of the asparagus tips and set aside for garnish
7.  Transfer the remaining broth to a food processor and puree until smooth.
8.  Gradually add cream while blending.
9. Return soup to pot and simmer 5 minutes longer, until heated through.
10.  Adjust seasoning as required.
11.  Pour soup into bowls, adding a few pieces of the tender asparagus pieces you took out in step 6 to soup.
12.  You can also add a little truffle oil to the soup, and stir. (Optional)

And, if you find yourself with any leftover asparagus, make sure to store it in the asparagus Fresh Produce Keeper from Good Cook.  The complete set of seven Fresh Produce Keepers only cost $47 if purchased all at once, or you can purchase each individually based upon your need.  This is one kitchen gadget you don't expect to need, but pick up and wonder how you ever lived with it! :-)
