Features 2 Hours of Classic Sesame Street Moments Voted on by Sesame Street’s Facebook Fans!

"Relive all your favorite memories with your Sesame Street friends as Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, released Sesame Street: Best of Friends on DVD March 19, 2013 for $14.98 SRP.  This DVD includes memorable Sesame Street songs, guests and beloved performances that have made Sesame Street a top-of-mind preschool show with moms. Everyone’s favorite characters are featured with celebrity appearances by Elvis Costello, Julianne Moore, Ricky Gervais, Gloria Estefan and many more! This release will also be available for digital download.

It seems everyone has their own favorite Sesame Street friend! Is yours the sweet and loveable Grover? The enchanting Abby Cadabby? The fun and furry Elmo? Or even the grumpy and grouchy Oscar? You’ll be sure to find your favorite in Sesame Street: Best of Friends, a compilation of fan favorite clips containing over 2 hours of content. Sesame Street: Best of Friends uses music and movement as a vehicle to teach math, literacy and emotions. Featuring classic gems such as Snuffy and Big Bird skating in the Ice Follies, to new favorites such as Elmo, Cookie Monster and Elvis Costello singing “A Monster Ate My Red 2,” there is something for the entire family to enjoy. Sing with Rosita and Gloria Estefan, and join Ricky Gervais as he sings a rather unusual lullaby to Elmo. Catch up with all of these hits and more with this latest DVD for the entire family to enjoy!

“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is sure Sesame Street: Best of Friends will be another wonderful addition to the Sesame Street DVD collection,” said Jeff Brown, WBHE Executive Vice President and GM of Non-Theatrical Franchise Marketing. “Sesame Street continues to be a retail powerhouse with over 4 million DVDs sold every year. Kids will be able to enjoy 2 fun filled hours of all their favorite Sesame Street moments again and again!”

Now in its 43rd season, Sesame Street is the longest-running program in children’s television. The series has received more Emmy awards than any other show in television history (146), as well as a Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award honoring the 40th year."

My Thoughts:

Even though we have only had this new release for a week now, we have already seen it over a dozen times.  Both my girls are fans of Sesame Street, and especially love Elmo and Abby Cadabby.  So, when they saw this review copy in the mail, which had their favorite Sesame Street characters on the cover, they couldn't wait to watch it.  This DVD contains over two hours of fun episodes and clips, which teach little ones about the alphabet, counting and shapes -- all things that Savannah is learning right now. :-)

When the girls weren't singing with Bert and Ernie, they were learning the alphabet with Cookie Monster, whose favorite letter was "C" -- I wonder why? :-)  I love sitting and watching Sesame Street with the girls, not only because it offers wonderful educational programming, but also because of the segments where popular celebrities come on and interact with the Sesame Street characters for the "Word of the Day" and other sing alongs.  This DVD includes celebrities segments with: Johnny Cash, James Blunt, Julianne Moore, Ricky Gervais, Elvis Costello and James Taylor, to name a few.  My favorite was the pairing of James Blunt and Telly Monster, as they sang "My Triangle" together.  So catchy!

No matter which Sesame Street character is your child's favorite, they will love this new Sesame Street DVD release.  And, don't forget to take advantage of the bonus features, which include a printable activity book, tips for parents and the abilities to add English and Spanish subtitles.
