PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

"The lovable pachyderm, star of Jean de Brunhoff’s charming and best-loved children’s books, makes the leap from page to film in this Dove-approved, feature-length animated movie originally theatrically released by New Line Cinema.  With girlfriend Celeste and the always-humorous monkey, Zephir, by his side, the Elephant monarch tells a tale, that unfolds via flashback, of how a much-younger Babar and Celeste save her village from a gang of pugnacious rhinoceroses – led by the evil Rataxes -- that have come to raid it.  Thanks to the soon-to-be King and his ingenious friends, the village constructs a massive make-believe mammoth, forcing the Rhinos to beat a hasty retreat – and Elephantland is saved!

With major TV broadcast exposure from the new series, Babar and the Adventures of Badu, currently airing daily on Disney Jr and the Classic Babar series, hailing from HBO and HBO Family, now airing on NBC, Telemundo and Ion through Qubo, BABAR is being introduced to a whole new audience craving more fun and adventures with Babar!  Don’t miss out on his greatest adventure yet with BABAR: THE MOVIE!"

My Thoughts:

It seems like wherever I turn I am seeing Babar on television.  From Disney Jr. to HBO Family and also Quobo and Ion, my family has a handful of opportunities to catch the new series, Babar and the Adventures of Badu, along with classic Babar (which is my favorite).  If you grew up watching and enjoying Babar, then you will love the new series which airs on Disney Jr.  Usually I don't like when they make over a popular series from my childhood, but after watching this new series with my two daughters, it is nice to see an updated version of classic Babar -- even though I still enjoy classic Babar seen on HBO Family.

So, when I heard that BABAR: THE MOVIE was releasing on DVD on 2/12, I couldn't wait to pick up a copy and share it with my daughters. What sets this new release apart from others is that it is the first song-filled motion picture.  In addition to the full length movie, viewers are in for a treat, as the bonus feature is the original, classic "Monkey Business" episode -- which is one of my favorites.  New and old fans of Babar will enjoy this movie, filled with comedy, adventure and song.  Since receiving the screening copy to review, we have already watched this movie over half a dozen times, without getting bored yet.  My girls love elephants and get excited every time they see Babar and friends appear on the television.

So, make sure yo mark your calendars and pick up BABAR: THE MOVIE when it hit stores shelves on 2/12.  It will be a great way to spend quality time together as a family, especially on a snow day.  Or, pick up a copy and surprise your Babar fan when you add it to their Easter basket. :-)
