My Thoughts:

I was sent the DVD, along with some fun goodies from the movie, "Katy Perry: Part of Me," which released on Blu-Ray and DVD last Tuesday.

This was one movie I really wanted to see on the big screen, but didn't make it out to the movies in time.  So, when I heard it was releasing last week, I had to get my hands on a copy of the film to review.

Did you see this when it was in theaters?  Come on, don't tell me you aren't a Katy Perry fan?  Out of all the recent up and coming artists of 2010-2011, she was one artist that stood out for being genuine and really have a voice.  Her songs read like diary pages and anyone who listens to her music, from tweens to adults can relate.  One big thing that Katy sings about is being different, but embracing these differences.

As I watched the intro and ending to the movie, fans of Katy Perry's shared home movies about why they love the singer and how her songs have impacted their lives.  Then, the film began, as Katy Perry was kicking off her year long "Part of Me" tour in 2011.  Not only were movie goers able to see what goes into putting a show together, as you watch the stages being put together, backup dances practicing, and the artist herself doing meet and greets, rehearsals, trying to get in much needed R&R backstage and on planes.  The biggest part of the movie, which really made you connect with Katy, was seeing her try to make her marriage to Russell Brand work.  She would work 18 days straight on tour, and then take 3 days off to fly to wherever her husband was and spend time with him.  Based on the footage shown in the movie, Russell only came 1-2 times to see Katy on tour.  This didn't help the relationship.  And, over the course of her must anticipated and highly successful tour, her marriages crumbled and eventually she and Russell Brand parted ways and filed for divorce.  Watching her go through this, you couldn't help but feel bad for her.  Even though she was a huge celebrity, she still dealt with personal struggles that many people go through on a day to day basis.

If you are looking to pick this new release up expecting to see her entire "Part of Me" tour, you will be disappointed.  The concert was not filmed that much, and you only see snippets of some of her acts.  The main draw of this film is for fans to see Katy Perry up close and personal, with raw emotions being captured by cameras.

I ended up watching this over the weekend after the girls went to bed, and then again last night, as it was that good.  As for the goodies that I was sent, along with the movie, I think my daughter Savannah had the most fun with them.  While I was watching the film over the weekend, she was in the living room with me playing with her toys.  As soon as she saw Katy Perry take to the stage and sing, she dropped everything and came to sit next to me.  Then, she asked me to put on one of the t-shirts I was sent and she walked around the house with it on, when she wasn't chasing the beach ball.  Here are some photos I took of her.

Note her playing with the iPhone case.  There was no phone, but she had a blast pretending she was gabbing on the phone.  My husband walked in and thought I had bought her a phone. :-)

As for the red velvet cupcakes, which are my favorite.  I made them the same day I received the DVD and goodies.  I couldn't wait for the movie to bake and enjoy them.  Between my husband and I, we ate a dozen cupcakes in 3 days.  Well, Savannah had one. :-)

If you are a Katy Perry fan and missed this when it was in theaters, it is worth picking up to see the "real" side of this famous singer.  It will make you think twice about celebrities having an easier life than the rest of us.  Yes, they may have more $$$, but it doesn't buy them happiness.  And, many want the same things as we do -- a relationship that works and can stand the test of time.  I hope Katy Perry finds happiness and her forever love.  Heck, she is under 30 years old, so she still has time. :-)

Disclosure:  I was sent a copy of this DVD and goodies to enjoy from the vendor.  The views above are mine and mine alone.
