Family Road Trip? Be Sure to Download PBS Kids Apps Before You Go (Review)

Are we there yet?  Millions of kids will be asking that very question in the coming weeks as families travel to their summer vacation destinations. Today’s parents can prepare for road trips differently than generations past.  Apps from PBS KIDS, like SUPER WHY! and Martha Speaks Dog Party, pass the miles, while helping kids keep their reading skills sharp over summer vacation.  In fact, these apps are so entertaining that kids may never get around to asking, “are we there yet?”

Just in time for July 4th week travel, PBS KIDS’ SUPER WHY! app, which builds literacy skills, will be available at a special price in the App Store from July 2nd through 9th.  Starting July 2, parents can download SUPER WHY! for iPad for $2.99 ($1 off) and SUPER WHY! for iPhone/iPod touch for $1.99 ($1 off).

Parents can find SUPER WHY! and other PBS KIDS apps to help build kids’ reading skills all summer long in the “PBS KIDS Raising Readers Room” on iTunes: www.itunes.com/pbsraisingreaders

My Thoughts:

I was sent a promo code to download the SUPER WHY! app to play with Savannah today, and she is hooked.  SUPER WHY! is one of her favorite PBS Kids shows. So, you should have saw her face when she turned on Daddy's iPad, and saw the app icon.  She exclaimed, "Oh," as she tapped on it.  When Whyatt and Princess Pea came on the screen she went crazy with excitement.  Even though she is a little young for the games on this app, she had a great time tapping away and hearing the SUPER WHY! characters talk.

If your child is a fan of SUPER WHY!, then they will love this new app, available for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.  Similar to the hit television show, your children can help change the story with Wyatt, follow the alphabet trail with Pig, rhyme with Red, and write with Princess Pea.  Like I said, Savannah was mainly playing with the app to see her favorite characters interact with her.  But, it kept her busy for over an hour today.  While Arabella was napping, I sat with Savannah and we played the app.  As a parent, I am a fan of PBS Kids and their program offering, and love how they offer educational and fun apps for kids, like this app.  And, with summer travel underway, this app would definitely keep the kids entertained in the backseat, in doctor's offices, and anywhere else they may become bored easily.  At only $1.99 and $2.99, depending on your tech gadget, this is a steal, when it comes to educational content, that will keep your little one engaged and entertained!!!

Disclosure:  I was sent a promo code in order to download this app for free, and provide an honest review on.  The views above are mine and mine alone.

  1. My kids and I both love PBS Kids too! The quality of programs and games are hard to find elsewhere so this is a great idea to download this app. I also like to have the Dish Remote Access app on my smart phone so that I can access my DVR recordings of PBS Kids’ shows. Luckily a Dish coworker mentioned I download the app. Like you mentioned, it takes a lot longer to hear “Are We There Yet?” when I bring this entertainment along with.
