With exciting on-ice action and engaging performances, Breakaway is a crowd-pleasing film guaranteed to score with the whole family.

My Thoughts:

If you follow my movie reviews, then you know that I love sports films.  So, when I heard about Breakaway, starring one of my childhood crushes, Rob Lowe :-), I had to get a copy and watch this.  Even though my husband is not a hockey fan, he made an exception the other night, as I chose this for our date-night movie.  After the film, he turned to me and said that he was glad that he watched the film, as it was good.  But, not to get my hopes up about his loving hockey, or wanting to sit through a season on television. :-(.

This family-friendly movie is packed with action, and will have you on the edge of your seat at times, rooting for this all Indian hockey team.  Yes, you read that right, this film follows a team of Indian players, who compete in the biggest tournament of the year, which the help of Rob Lowe's character, who coaches them.  Teens will love that Camille Belle is in the film, acting as Rob Lowe's little sister, who helps out with the team and falls for Rajveer's character. After viewing this film, families can have a discussion about pursuing your dreams and talking with your family about your hopes and passion.  Even though Rajveer's parents disapproved of his choice of a non-traditional career, he did not give up on his dream of playing hockey, as this is where his heart was.  This film will follow Ravjeer as he doesn't give up on his dream of making it to the NHL with the help of Rob Lowe's character, all while trying to have his family understand his personal choices, in hopes of acceptance.  Does he lead his team to a championship? And, does his family finally come around and accept his non-traditional career?  I'm not going to spoil it for you -- you'll just have to pick up a copy of this film or rent it when it releases on June 26th, for your family to enjoy. And, be ready to laugh at the same time, as Russel Peters adds some comic relief to this film.  You will walk away from this film with a new perspective on minor league hockey, as well as having enjoyed an inspirational, yet comedic film, every member of the family will enjoy.

Looking forward to hearing what you think.

Disclosure:  I was sent a copy of this DVD from the vendor in order to write up an honest review.  The views above are mine and mine alone.
