Like I said on Monday, I love reading to my daughters, and find it not only relaxing, but also as a way to bond, all while enjoying a good book together. But, many families aren't lucky enough to have a parent or grandparent read their young children a bedtime story, as they either live far away, work and travel a lot, or are deployed. For families like these, Barb's books come in handy, as a person is able to personalize the story with their own 4x6 photos. So, as the child has the book read to them, or they flip through the pages themselves, they will see your photos and feel connected. I think this is a great idea, and love how you can personalize the storybooks with your photos.
Barb kindly sent me a copy of her I Love Mommy Because... book. Now, even though I stay home with the girls all day, it was nice to create a personalized book for them. And, when I read the book for the first time to Savannah, I couldn't help by savor those minutes, as she snuggled next to me on the couch, and as I turned each page, to show her photos of us together, she kept saying "Mommy" and gave me hugs. You need to add 7 photos to this sturdy board book, which is beautifully illustrated and shows a mother and child playing together, as well as a child being spoiled, read to, sharing a laugh with, smiling together, and finally holding each other tight. Savannah's favorite pages were the last two, where I had put a photo of me hugging her and her little sister, and giving them kisses.
Since receiving this book, Savannah has asked me to read it to her at least once a day. I know this book will be enjoyed for years to come, and as Savannah and Arabella get older, I can switch out the photos with updated ones. There is going to come a time (I hope long down the road), when the girls will want to be more independent. When this time comes, I will make sure this book is handy, so they will always remember the bond we have, and how much I love them.
In addition to the I Love Mommy Because... book, Barb also offers a book for father, grandmothers and grandfathers. I can't wait to pick up a copy of her grandparents books, as my parents live over an hour and a half away, and every time they leave, Savannah gets sad and misses thing. I know that by sharing Barb's books with her, she will be consoled and know that even though they have to go, they still love her to pieces. And, when they can't come to visit, Savannah can enjoy seeing their faces, as she flips through these personalized storybooks, in the Barb-A-Mel series.
So, if you have a loved one who travels, is in the military, etc., and can't be with your child all the time, why not consider picking up one of Barb's books and add their photos, to create a special keepsake that children will enjoy reading and flipping through for years to come.
