Valentine's Day Gift Giving Guide -- Gifts for All -- Morphology, A Guessing Game the Whole Family Will Enjoy (Review)

What is Morphology?:

How to Play:

  1. DIVIDE INTO TEAMS.
  2. DRAW A WORD FROM THE DECK.
  3. USE THE SHAPES AND PIECES TO BUILD THE WORD.
  4. GET YOUR TEAMMATES TO GUESS WITHIN THE ALLOTTED TIME.
  5. IF YOU GUESS CORRECTLY, MOVE YOUR TEAM FROG FORWARD ONE LILY PAD. THE FIRST TEAM TO REACH FINISH WINS!

What Comes in the Game:

Become a Morphologist:

The Morphologist is the builder each round and rotates with each team. Without talking, the Morphologist must ‘morph’ the pieces into the word.

Each time the team correctly guesses the word in the 1 minute allowed, they move forward one lily pad. Then the die is passed to the left.

But be ready-the board will take twists and turns as you hop your way through! When you land on a lily pad that says roll, you must roll the die and watch your creativity and laughter grow!

Here’s What You Might Do:

  • Everybody plays: each team chooses a Morphologist to build (they are limited to 5 pieces each).
  • EYES CLOSED: BUILD A WORD WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED!
  • WEAK HAND ONLY: tuck your ‘dominant’ hand behind your back and challenge yourself to build using only one hand!
  • String only: Build using only the string.
  • You Pick 5: Before looking at the word, pick 5 pieces and use only these five to build the word.
  • Interception: You can use all of the pieces, but guess well because if you don’t guess, the other team will get a chance to guess the word correctly and steal a point!

My Thoughts:
I couldn't wait until Superbowl Sunday rolled around last week.  No, it wasn't because I am a football fan -- I don't know anything about the game, nor want to know.  Instead, I am a fan of the commercials.  But, this year was different. We ended up throwing a Superbowl Party at our house.  With over a dozen people wandering throughout the house, we were bound to sit down and play some fun board games that required you to be divided up into teams.  And, one of the games I wanted to try out with everyone was Morphology, which, I was recently sent to review. After hearing about it from other bloggers and checking out the games website, I was eager to play and see what all the hype was about.

After we were done eating and waiting for the game to start, I took Morphology out to play.  At first the guys were reluctant to play, as there weren't big board game fans. But, after watching a group of us play, and not being able to stop laughing, everyone wanted to join in.  We all had a blast playing this challenging game.  What I liked most about this game is that unlike similar games like charades or Pictionary, you don't have to be a good drawer or be able to act things out.  Instead, you need to use your creativity to create random objects with the supplies provided (like wooden sticks, glass beads and colored cubes).  This game was so addicting, that when the game began, most of the ladies ended up taking the game to dining room to continue play.  And, once half time came, the men came in for a quick game.

Since the Superbowl game, those I have talked to who were over and played Morphology can't stop talking about how much fun they had.  I am even planning an upcoming game night at our house for a rematch -- can't wait.

Does your family love challenging and fun board games?  Then, you must pick up Morphology and play it at your next family game night.  It really makes you think and use your creativity to create the objects on the cards.  And, the best part of all is that the whole family will enjoy playing this game! What a great way to spend quality time together!!!
