Back on November 18th, Nickelodeon launched Team Umizoomi Math:  Zoom into Numbers, a math-based app inspired by Nickelodeon’s preschool series, Team Umizoomi – the first preschool series to focus entirely on math.

Developed by curriculum consultants and tested by focus groups, the app features five touchable, deeply leveled games (23 levels in all), an interactive map of Umi City and a reward system where  kids can earn badges and trophies throughout the game(s) while uncovering hidden surprises along the way.

This innovative app takes the curriculum and excitement from the television screen to mobile devices using state of the art designs that combine 2D and 3D animation, and visually stimulating imagery. The content is age-appropriate and comprehensive – and most of all, it’s fun for kids and engaging. Much like the TV series, the app combines action-adventure missions with interactive math curriculum designed to help kids develop self-confidence in their math abilities and appreciate the many ways in which mathematics shapes their world.

The Curriculum in each level includes:

· Counting

· Number Recognition

· Advanced Number Recognition

· Number Line

· Simple Addition and Subtraction

As one of the first kid-focused media companies to launch content on the iPad, Nickelodeon continues to provide compelling content to the platform. The network’s apps are designed so kids can interact with their favorite characters in new and different ways; on all the platforms they have available to them.

My Thoughts:

My daughter is a huge fan of this Nickelodeon show, so when I heard this app had launched, I was eager to try out with and see how it compared to other apps.  Fans of the show will love how they are transported into Umi City, where they can put their math power to the test, solving various types of number problems through fun, interactive games.  Because I am working with Savannah counting, we thoroughly enjoyed the Toy Store game of this app.  This game is great for the young children learning how to count, as it makes learning to count fun.  Some kids don’t find math fun, as it is hard for them to comprehend or grasp, but through the use of this app at home and in schools, it will change these children’s views of math and let them see that it can be enjoyable.  With the various games in this app, including Number Bubbles, Rolling Toy Parade, Up! Up! And Balloons and Race around Umi City (Another one of Savannah’s favorite games), children will be entertained for hours and sharpen their math skills in the process.

So, if your child is a fan of Nickelodeon’s Team Umizoomi or they don’t find math enjoyable, why not pick up this app today and spend time together playing with this great educational app.  Together you can discover the fun with math and numbers.  I, as a parent, even found this app to be enjoyable.
