  • Summary:

After delighting theatre audiences around the world for over 20 years, and receiving thousands of rave reviews, fan favorite FOREVER PLAID comes to DVD for the first time! Struggling to make it as a “guy group” in the early 60’s, The Plaids are suddenly wiped out by a school bus filled with eager teens while driving to their first real gig. Nearly fifty years later, they’re returned to Earth to put on the show they never performed.

Packed with vintage charm and the quirky fun of live musical theater, FOREVER PLAID focuses on the band’s second earthly appearance, where they face the cosmic stakes of their performance to hit the perfect harmonic chord buried in the song “Love Is A Many Splendored Thing” – a chord they never hit in life.

    Bonus Features:

Featurette: Forever Plaid: Stage to Screen; Trailers: Original TV Commercials

    My Thoughts:

This DVD is a taping of a 2009 Broadway show of this popular musical.  There are not many musicals out there that can span 20 years and still captivate audiences.  Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to see this off-Broadway live, but have heard from friends who have, that it is an amazing musical, and that the music by the 4 men are great.

So, when I was sent a copy of this DVD, I couldn't wait to see what I was missing.  From the start, I couldn't stop tapping my feet to the songs.  The 4-part harmonies were superb.  I can see why it has lasted 20 years and was released to DVD.  The best part about this off-Broadway musical is that they don't use any flashy stage props, etc. to entertain the audience -- only, their voices.  If you are a fan of Forever Plaid the musical or just love musicals, then you should check out this DVD.  It will not disappoint.

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this DVD in order to write up an honest review.  The views above are mine and mine alone.
