The Secret Mountain,
a Montreal based publisher of high quality picture books, videos and music for children, launches a new line of interactive apps for children, beginning with the iPad edition of Connie Kaldor’s humorous and inspiring tale A Duck in New York City.

Children may listen to the story and songs and choose the way they would like to follow the story. A Duck in New York City tells the tale of a little duck from the prairie with a big dream: to perform his ducky dance on Broadway. It turns out to be an adventurous journey that appears bound for failure, until he meets up with a truck driver named Big Betty. She points him in the right direction and gives him that little nudge he needs to tackle the Big Apple.

A Duck in New York City app features animation of the vivid illustrations by Fil & Julie from the original book, plus Connie Kaldor’s heartwarming story about making dreams come true with a little help from friends. The original book-CD won a Juno Award (the Canadian equivalent  of The Grammys) and a Parents’ Choice Gold award. Earlier this year, The Secret Mountain released it in a Spanish edition as Un Pato en Nueva York, which in turn won a 2011 Gold Award from NAPPA, the national parenting publications.

The Secret Mountain's new iPad app makes the story highly readable and interactive for children ages 3 to 9, with easy to navigate controls and rewards at every click. “We see the new application as just another way for children to enjoy the story,” explains Roland Stringer, publisher at The Secret Mountain. “We chose the iPad platform to launch this new line because it offers the best visuals and sound quality. Our specialty is music with storytelling, and the new app enhances the experience of reading and singing to a story. I can’t get over how good the illustrations look, and the audio is excellent.”

Five features of the application mean there are five ways to enjoy A Duck in New York City:

• Read the story
• Listen to the narrated story
• Watch an animated version of the story
• Listen to the theme song
• Sing the theme song in karaoke

A Duck in New York City is available now for $3.99 from the iTunes store: http://itunes.apple.com/app/a-duck-in-new-york-city/id466922425?mt=8.  The Secret Mountain also plans to release iPad application editions of two other stories for the holiday season: Sunday in Kyoto and The Little Doggy.”  For a video preview, visit http://vimeo.com/29774887, and to learn more about the release, visit  The Secret Mountain at: http://www.thesecretmountain.com/node/1187
