Sidral Mundet is a popular apple-flavored soft drink comes from Mexico and has a great taste and is made with real sugar (no corn syrup) and made with real apples, no fake artificial flavoring or colors. All flavors come from “Apple Juice” It is widely known as a nourishing and hydrating beverage as well as a fantastic cooking ingredient! Mexican mother’s use this soda to treat upset stomachs and it has also been used to treat a HANGOVER! This Mexican soda dates back to 1900′s!
Are you a soda fan? Do you like to try new or weird flavors of soda? If you answered "yes" to either of these questions, then you have to check out Sidral Mundet's apple sodas, in either regular or green apple. I was recently sent samples of these Mexican sodas to try out. I have to say, I have never seen these beverages in Mexican restaurants that my husband and I frequent in Boston or Hartford. So, when I received the sodas, I wasn't sure what I was in for.
But, I love soda -- mainly the fizz gets me -- so, I couldn't wait to chill a bottle (recommended to be served cold) and have it that night with dinner. My husband is from El Salvador, so he is used to different Mexican sodas that are sold, and he too, never heard of Sidral Mundet, and was eager to see what a Mexican apple soda tasted like.
Upon first appearance of the regular apple soda, one may be hesitant on drinking it, as it is light brownish in color, kind of like rusty water. But, when you crack the top off, you can smell a sweet and then spicy aroma of apples. To me, I felt like I was drinking an apple juice drink, with fizz. I didn't think it was that bad, but every once in awhile I would get a sour, spicy flavor, which really tingles your taste buds. It took awhile to get used to drinking a sweet and spicy/sour soda. I am used to Coca Cola and Sprite, so this is a big difference and I could taste it. I guess like many soda drinkers, you have a favorite and it is hard to accept new flavors that your palette is not used to. On the other hand, my husband enjoyed it. He liked the apple flavor of both he regular and green apple soda, and he couldn't stop talking about the zing he got every other sip with the sweet and sour mix-up of these apple sodas. In the end, he ended up taking the remaining samples to work to have with lunch, as I just couldn't part with my favorite soda flavors. He said out of the two, he would definitely by the Sidral Mundet Green Apple Soda again, as he likes sour things, and this had a nice bite to it. I'll take his word on it! :-)
