Bringing home baby can be one of the scariest days in a new parent's life. A truly helpful how-to, Blythe Lipman's guide to caring for babies is the perfect resource for first-time parents who wish their new baby came with an instruction manual. Lipman has devoted her life to the gentle art of infant care and offers wise and witty practical advice in this parent-tested, expert-approved book. Filled with invaluable information new parents really need, Lipman includes plenty of true-life stories and guidance to help them through those first nerve-racking months. Help! My Baby Came Without Instructions will have nervous new moms and sleep-deprived dads feeling confident about their parenting skills. Hints on daily routines, sleep patterns, crying, the art and science of diapering, and traveling with a newborn are also provided.

My Review:
This is a must read for any new parent.  Even though the book is small in size, it is jam packed with useful tips to help keep you sane during your baby's year of life.  Being a new mom myself, I had no idea what I would be getting myself into, bringing home a new baby.  Even though I read other books prior to Savannah's arrival, none gave great tips like "Help! My Baby Came Without Instructions."

One of the tips we use most often to help Savannah when we can't get her to stop crying is the warm blanket technique.  We throw one of her favorite blankets in the dryer for a few minutes to warm it up, and then we wrap Savannah in it.  In minutes, she calms down (and, usually falls asleep).

And, now that Savannah is teething, we use Blythe's tips in her book.  Who knew that a frozen bagel or banana could help ease teething pain?  Whenever I am in a crisis with the baby and don't know what to do, I read for this book, and in seconds, can find helpful tips to help ease the situation at hand.

So, if you are a new parent like me, or who someone who is expecting their first child, why not pick up this book today.  It can easily be carried in a diaper bag, so you have it at all times.  And, it is a quick read, unlike some of those other preparing for baby books.

  1. If you have a boy, always cover him when you're changing a diaper and point him down when you put on the diaper or you may get leakage out of the top of the diaper. A friend found this out the hard way after going through tons of clothes that first week!
