The Glass Castle [Blu-ray + DVD]

I am not usually a fan of movies that are made based on books, but this was one that I was eager to see play out on the big screen.  I remember reading this book back when I was going cancer treatment in 2008, as it was the only book on the book lending cart that looked like it would keep me engaged for the 5 hours I was sitting in treatment.  And, that it did...I finished it by the end of the night, and couldn't wait to share it with friends and family.  Even if you haven't read the memoir by Jeannette Walls, you will still enjoy this movie, which released on DVD and Blu-Ray yesterday.  I liked how they chose Brie Larson, Harrelson and Naomi Watts to play key roles, as they really brought this story to life and had you engaged in the plot from start to finish.

I missed this movie when it was in theaters, so was eagerly awaiting for it to arrive on DVD and Blu-Ray.  And, last night I ended up watching this movie instead of blogging. :-)  It was only 127 minutes in length, so not a bad length for a movie.  The movie flowed great and I wasn't left bored at any point in the movie.  I will say that if you cry easily at movies, you will want to have your tissues ready.  This story is about family and unconditional love and will leave you moved, and grateful you sat to watch the movie.  It reminded me of the "Blind Side" in how it dealt with family and coming together.  I highly recommend this movie if you are looking for a wonderful, heartwarming movie for a girls' night in, at home date night, or like me used as your "me time" to unwind after a busy day with the kids.  I will definitely be watching this movie again, and  like the book, will be passing it along to family and friends to enjoy.
