"Pedro ‘n’ Piprecently released and co-produced by singer/songwriter Taylor Barton and her husband, legendary guitarist and former SNL Band Leader GE Smith, is a raucousuplifting rock 'n' roll odyssey about a tenacious ten-year-old girl, named Pip, and a ‘rockoctopus’, Pedro, who she meets while scuba diving after an oil spill in the Gulf. Together, they forge a powerful friendship and unite sea creatures and landlubbers alike to help clean up our waters for the good of all."

When you think of children's books, I doubt an Eco-friendly one comes to mind.  Well, the girls and I just finished Pedro 'n' Pip written by Taylor Barton, and we can't stop talking about it.  Who knew a book with an Eco-friendly message could be so enjoyable.  Not only was the story cute and fun to read, but the messages about the importance of clean water, toxin-free fish and other food supplies, were front and center in this book, perfect for children ages 6+.

If the name Taylor Barton sounds familiar that is because she is known for her appearances on SNL and Conan, as well as all her hit music releases.  Now, Taylor is venturing into the world of children's book, and I have to say she was successful right from the start.  She took a topic not usually talked about in the children's book genre and made it one kids can understand.  As children read this story, they will find themselves asking questions and wanting to take a stand and help save the planet for their generation and generations to come.  Both of my girls were upset to hear about polluted waters and unsafe fish in the ocean.  They asked me as we were reading this what they could do, as they really want to help make the planet healthy and keep it healthy.

So, as part of our homeschooling, we have been talking about ways to protect our environment.  We would read a chapter or two in the book, then do some activities and school work centering around what we read.  The girls had so much fun learning about ways to protect the planet, in addition to having me share this book with them.  And, when we weren't reading or doing school work, we were breaking out into song and dance thanks to the catchy music that Taylor and friends created to go along with this new release, and which can be downloaded at iTunes.  The songs all have a Caribbean/Jamaican vibe to it that will get you moving and grooving. My girls loved our dance sessions, and I loved being able to teach them about important Eco-friendly messages in a fun and unique way.  Thanks, Taylor Barton.

I highly recommend this book for you to share with your child, as it is up to them to help protect our planet for generations to come.
