Chia Mickey Mouse

Growing up, I always wanted a Chia Pet.  But, for some reason or another I never did get one.  Now, 20+ years later I get to see what I was missing, thanks to the folks at Joseph Enterprises who sent along the Mickey Mouse Chia Pet for my family to try out. :-)

Sorry for getting the "Ch...Ch...Chia" saying stuck in your head.  Every time I see or think of the Chia Pet product line, I can't help but say the saying in my head.  It is just too catchy. :-)  My girls love saying it, too.  What have I started...every time they walk by our Mickey Mouse Chia Pet in the kitchen, they say it, as they look to see how much hair has grown on Mickey's head. :-)  Arabella is eagerly awaiting for a lush head of hair to sprout.  I have to remind her daily that it will take about 1-2 weeks to see all the hair that Mickey Mouse will grow, and that we have to continue to monitor and water when needed.  It is like taking care of a pet, but with less hassle and not having to brave the cold to take them out to go potty. :-)

Chia Hello Kitty

Did you have a Chia Pet growing up?  What did you think of it?  The Chia Pet line now comes in a variety of options, including Hello Kitty, Duck Dynasty cast mates, and so many more.  The hard part will be choosing with Chia friend you want to bring home and watch its' hair grow. :-)

Over the weekend, my husband and the girls piled around the dining room table as I read the easy to follow instructions.  Just know if advance that you have to soak the Chia pot in water for 1 hr. and also mix the Chia seeds with 1/4 cup water and let sit for 1 hr.  So, if you have little ones, you may want to do this ahead of time.  My girls got a little anxious after Daddy pull the Mickey Mouse Chia Pet pot out of the box and wanted to do hands-on stuff right away.  They got bored watching the Mickey pot soak in the water.

But, once the hour had passed and it was time to spread the Chia seeds all over Mickey's head, they couldn't wait.  Make sure you have paper towels handy when working with little ones, as this step will probably get messy.  We had the girls used mini spatulas to spread the Chia seeds, as they didn't like getting the sticky seeds on their hands.  After a few minutes the seeds were spread, and we were ready to find a spot for our new Chia Pet to stay.  Savannah wanted to leave it on the window sill, but the instructions say a cool dry place, but not drafty.  We ended up leaving it on the kitchen counter, so that everyone who came to visit could see our new Chia Pet and watch the progress of Mickey's Chia hair growth.  Even though the hair hasn't sprouted yet, the girls continually walk by and check out Mickey daily. It has become a ritual...every AM when they wake and every night before bed, they say hello to Mickey and see how he is doing.  I can't wait to see their reactions when they start to see his green hair growing.  And, you know what...I can't wait either.  I have to say, even though I had to wait a long time to have a Chia pet...it was well worth the wait.  We had a blast as a family prepping our new Chia Pet and can't wait to pick up more to add to our Chia family.
