"Is there anything better than a kitchen countertop spread with the spoils of a Saturday morning at the farmers' market? Every trip yields some new assortment of old favorites and newfound treasures. One week, you're tempted by the sun-warmed heirloom tomatoes and the Mason jars brimming with orange blossom honey. Another week, it's the slabs of milky Havarti cheese and the Red Haven peaches heavy with juice, enticing you to spend just a little more than you planned. Kentucky pole beans, silky ears of sweet corn, and sacks of stone-ground buckwheat flour may find their way into your basket on another visit.

Whether you shop with a list or purely on impulse, you'll always find the truest taste of home at the local farms, roadside stands, and produce markets in your community. These are the places that offer up the native flavors of the South and all its seasons. They are your portal to the fields, the waters, and the vines where your food is cultivated. Get to know the origins of what you eat and the people who produce it. Tammy Algood's Farm Fresh Southern Cooking celebrates this experience with delicious recipes that will enhance the natural flavors of your latest market haul and stories of the South's most dedicated growers and culinary producers."

My Thoughts:

I fell in love with the South back in 2009 when I visited Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC with my husband, after completing my cancer treatment.  As we walked down the streets and smelled the delicous home cooked food, I thought I was in Heaven.  Then, when we went on a foodie tour and were able to sample over a dozen restaurant's food, I fell in love with Southern cooking.  Since our first visit, we have gone back at least twice a year to get our fix of Southern cuisine.  But, when we can't make it to the South, I rely on cookbooks to bring these flavorful meals to my table.

So, when I saw Farm Fresh Southern Cooking was available for review, I had to request a copy and try out their collection of Southern recipes.  As soon as I received this cookbook, I read through it like a novel, highlighting and flagging must try recipes.  By the time I got to the end of the book, it looked like 3/4 of the book was flagged. :-)

I use the weekends to try out new recipes, and have spent the past month trying out dozen of recipes from thsi new cookbook.  Each and every one makes my house smell wonderful, and reminds me of the first time my husband and I walked down the cobblestone street and smelled good 'ole Southern cooking.  And, they tasted just like I remember.  But, the best part of all, was that I made each dish and was able to bring the South to my table, thanks to the cookbook.

If you love Southern cooking as much as I do, then you will have to pick up a copy of this cookbook, and try out some of the recipes.  You will be amazed at how each recipe is to prepare, and how good the dishes taste.  I can't wait to get back into the kitchen and try out more recipes.

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this book by the publisher in order to write up an honest review.  The views above are mine and mine alone.
