Summary:

Amazing photo pairs—one a cherised childhood snapshot, the other a spot-on accurate, heartwarming and often hilarious modern re-creation

Everyone has childhood photographs that make them smile, laugh, even tear up. Young Me, Now Me starts with dozens of these wonderful old snapshots then blasts the cute quotient into the stratosphere by showing a second version of the same photo taken decades later by participants who have recreated the location, dress, pose, facial expressions and every other little detail in the original—with eerily accurate and highly amusing results. Launched in 2008, the Young Me, Now Me blog has become a phenomenon, with over one-and-half million people visiting it and thousands sending in amazing photo pairs. This book presents the best of the best of these submissions, along with charming anecdotes and colorful backstories for each. From a balding middle-aged man in short pants, white dress shirt, red tie, sandals, and socks squatting behind a tricycle just as he did 40 years ago to a painstakingly recreated family photo showing six generations in one frame, each image pair in Young Me, Now Me proves — in the most entertaining way possible — that as much as things change, cherished moments remain forever.

My Thoughts:

I couldn't stop laughing as I flipped through this book, which captures childhood photos of children on one side of the page, and on the opposite side, there is a photo of the same photo/child, but taken as an adult.  Prior to stumbling across this book from Ulysses Press, I wasn't aware of the Young Me, Now Me blog, which launched in 2008.  If I had know, I would definitely have bought copies of this book to give as holiday and birthday gifts last year.  But, now that I know, I have a handful of family and friends I know will enjoy flipping through this photo book.  This book really shows that even though we age, we can cherish and relieve memories forever.  Just look at the cover, with a children piled into the back of the car, and then the adults in the same pose.  Hilarious, yet priceless.   Click here to visit Ze Frank's blog and see examples of photos that make up this great book.

Why not surprise Mom this Mother's Day with a copy of this book by Ze Frank.  Or, with Father's Day right around the corner, give Dad a gift he will enjoy flipping through.  As I looked at each photo, I began thinking about memories of my childhood I would love to re-create as an adult.  Who knows, maybe one day my brothers and I will re-create old memories, while making new ones.
