Halloween is only 22 days away. And, while you and your kids may be making final decisions on what costume you will wear or what candy you will hand out to neighborhood trick-or-treaters this year, the sugar goblins are hoping that your kids will be leaving bagfuls of candy for them to take and bring back to Sugar Goblin Village.
What am I talking about? Yes, it has been a long week, but I haven't lost my mind. :-) Instead, I am talking a fun Halloween book and plush set that you can pick up and share with your child this Halloween and for many more to come. "The Sugar Goblin: The Return of Tricks for Treats" is a cute box set that includes a little green goblin for you to display in your home, as well as story book that introduces your child to the sugar goblins and their need for candy, and that they will enjoy hearing year after year.
I am one for adding new family traditions, and love the idea of ones like these, especially for Halloween, as this holiday is only known for dressing up in costume and going trick-or-treating. But, thanks to "The Sugar Goblin," your kids will look forward to waking up each morning to find what trick their sugar goblin has done. From turning the toilet green or even leaving a toilet paper trail throughout the house, to spilling cereal onto the dining room table or even hiding a favorite toy, to hanging pictures upside down on the wall, making faces on plates out of breakfast food or staging a tea party with stuffed animals, etc. The sky is the limit to what silly antics you, the parent, can think off as the trick for each day. And, be sure to have your cameras handy to capture the reaction of your child when they wake to go check on the goblin.
The one thing your child has to remember, though, is that they can't touch the goblin once he taken from the box and put on a shelf or somewhere within view -- that is after you give it a few hugs and show the goblin it is welcome:-)
If your kids touch the goblin once you place it, the goblin will get scared and run home to Sugar Goblin Village, without staying long enough to gather up all the kids' candy to live off of from this Halloween to the next. I know what you are thinking, this idea sounds similar to the Christmas one in that the elf does silly things each morning, leading up to Christmas. Well, you are right, if you and your family have this elf tradition, then you are well on your way of planning fun tricks for your sugar goblin to do. But, unlike, which only stays to watch over your child and report their behavior to the big man back at the North Pole, the Sugar Goblin is only staying around for one thing....providing tricks for treats. They are not keeping a naughty or nice list. In exchange for all your child's Halloween, minus a few pieces, as they also want your child to enjoy the sweets of Halloween, they will leave behind a present (to be given by the parents secretly) So, it will be a win-win for both the sugar goblin staying at your house until Halloween night and your child.
Sounds easy right? Well, this fun family tradition is. But, you first sit down to read "The Sugar Goblin: The Return of Tricks for Treats" to your child, you will learn that a time ago, the sugar goblins found themselves not wanted by the kids. The kids didn't want to share their candy with the goblins, and this left them both hungry (as they live off of the Halloween sweets) and sad. They loved playing tricks on the kids, in exchange for the candy. But, not being wanted by the kids, kept them back at the Sugar Goblin Village and not traveling to the kids' house to countdown to Halloween with them.
The story, full of brightly colored illustrations and a cute story, that kids of all ages will enjoy, tells the tale of the sugar goblins and how they made the return to providing tricks for treats, that to one brave and persistent goblin...which is living at our house right now...and named Goober Goblin (Bella named him). My girls can't wait to go trick-or-treating on Halloween night to gather up as much candy for Goober Goblin to take back to Sugar Goblin Village. They want to make sure his candy stash will tide him over his return next Halloween. And, they while are eagerly counting down the days -- 22 days left, I am busy coming up with fun tricks for Goober Goblin to do in the night, and surprise the girls with each morning. Isn't this a really cute idea? I love it, and my girls fell in love with the cute little green goblin when they opened the box set last week.
