Have you started your holiday shopping yet?  If not, just a friendly reminder that there are only 73 more days until Christmas -- no pressure! :-)  I have only started my shopping recently, as the girls are still deciding what they want to ask Santa for.  But, after a recent in-house party where my girls and their friends were able to play with Playskool toys, I know what Santa will be bringing some of the partygoers, and what the moms who attended the party will be talking up with friends and family who ask for toy suggestions.

My in-house party couldn't have come at a better time, as many of the kids who attended are having fall birthdays, including my youngest, whose birthday is in November.  You would have thought Santa came early when the kids walked into the dining room where I had all the toys set up.  Their eyes lit up, and they all had big smiles on their faces.  I even caught a few of the kids pointing and counting to make sure there were enough toys for each of them to get one to play with. :-)  

My Playskool Let’s Imagine Elmo Party Kit contained the following toys for my girls and their friends to play with and share their thoughts on...

Prior to the party, my girls helped me with party preparations.  From naming people they wanted to invite, which included their cousin, friends from Savannah's preschool, the neighborhood kids and some of their friends from our mommy and me meetup groups, to helping me go shopping for snacks and party supplies, my girls found themselves getting excited for the party they were helping me plan, and couldn't wait to see what those who were coming thought of everything. :-)  It was funny how one of the party supplies that I was sent as an Elmo sticker that the moms filled out after asking their child(ren) what they wanted to be when they grow.  I asked Bella this question, and she was quick to say party planner.  :-)  Savannah, on the other hand, wants to be a toy testing.  Two pretty cool jobs, don't you think?! :-)  The other children wanted to be police officers, veterinarians, doctors, ballerinas, cooks, truck driver and even a magician.  But, for right now, they are happy being kids and getting to try out some cool toys! 

The firs toy, which was the main focus of our in-house Playskool party was the Let’s Imagine Elmo Doll.  Have you seen this new Elmo toy in stores?  If not and have little ones who love Elmo, this is one toy to scoop up early, before the holiday toy shopping rush starts, as I see this toy selling out fast.

As you know Elmo loves to pretend, and this toy will let your child be part of Elmo's imaginative world, by switching up the four hats that come with the doll.  The hats easily snap on and off, making this a fun toy for little ones,who don't like to struggle with toy parts.  Whenever a new hat is put on Elmo, he detects that specific hat and this where the fun begins.  

All kids love Elmo so the Let's Imagine Elmo toy was an instant hit with everyone.  The kids were amazed that Elmo could tell the difference between the four hats and was able to recognize each.  There was a lot of giggling going on, especially  when Elmo had the kids squeezing his nose as they counted all the way to 20.  And, just like when my girls see Elmo sing on Sesame Street, a little dance party broke out in my living, as the kids danced around, swinging the Elmo doll, and singing along to the catchy songs.

The Let's Imagine Elmo doll has so many interactive features, and with the four different pretend modes, this is one toy that will keep your child's attention, and having them pick up the toy time and again.  As part of the party kit, my girls were able to keep the Let's Imagine Elmo doll.  I ended up going to the store to buy another, as they always seemed to want to play with the doll as the same time, and didn''t want to share.  Yes, we are still working on sharing - some days are better than others.  But, when the girls saw the cute Let's Imagine Elmo doll, they had to have their own, to play with during the day, and snuggle with at night time.  To this day, my girls can't go a day without playing with Elmo and pretending with him.  They love to dress up a cowgirl, princess and pirate sailing the wide open sea -- depending on what hat Elmo is wearing at that moment. :-)  

As for the party guests, I have spoken with each of the moms, and either they have picked up the Let's Imagine Elmo to put away for Christmas, or their child has already added it to their growing wish list for Santa.  Out of all the toys that were sent for review, the Let's Imagine Elmo was by far the favorite of everyone in attendance.  I couldn't blame them, as I still love Elmo, too!

In addition to playing with the Let's Imagine Elmo from Playskool, the kids also got to play with Mr. Potato Head ‘Transformers Mixable, Mashable Heroes Optimus Prime and Grimlock toys.

While you would expect Transformers toys to be more popular with the boys, I was surprised to see my girls and their girl friends also enjoying playing with these Mr. Potato Head toys.  The kids love making and destroying the spuds, as well as pretending to act out fight scenes between the different Transformers characters. 

The only downside to this toy that the moms and I found, was that the pieces didn't stay in that well.  We found ourselves struggling at times to put the pieces together and have them stay in place long enough for the kids to battle. But, even though we struggled, the kids didn't mind, and were even talking about getting more to add to their new collection. :-)

Also in attendance at my in-house Playskool were four little ones under the age of 2.  I was excited to see that Playskool had included a toy especially for them to play with in the mix -- ‘Stack N’ Spin Monkey Gears’, to keep them engaged and busy, as the older kids got to play with their Transformers spuds.

There was more giggling to be heard when I took the STACK ‘N SPIN MONKEY GEARS toys out to be played with.  The little ones loved putting the gears on the monkey's belly and then watching them move and light up, as the music played.  

The older kids came running from across the room to check out this toy, and thought it was neat, with the moving gears and being able to stack and sort the colors.  I don't know about you, but my little ones love toys that light up and play music. Even if these toys are geared towards children younger than them, they still want to play.  This is what I found with the kids at our party.  They loved helping the little ones one, sorting the colors and pressing the buttons to watch the gears move.  This is another toy I can see will be a hit this upcoming holiday season, for little ones.

Overall, I had a blast hosting the Playskool Let’s Imagine Elmo Party, and introducing the kids and their moms to these fun new toys from Playskool. My girls loved helping me play hostess, and surprising the party goers by telling them that they could take the Transformers spuds and STACK ‘N SPIN MONKEY GEARS toys home to keep.  I see more party planing in their future!

My Thoughts:

I was sent the Funtime Activity Turtle to review with my daughter, Savannah.  Even though she is 18 months old today, she still loved playing with this toy.  Now that she is walking, she enjoys her push and pull along toys more.  So, when she saw this activity turtle and saw that it could be pulled along, she was eager to play with it.  And, what baby and toddler doesn't like buttons and sounds?  Savannah went crazy pushing each button to see which sounds it would make.  In addition, the buttons light up, which engages the child more.  Savannah kept pushing the buttons and pointing to the lights.  She was so proud of herself for being able to make the turtle light up and make noise.  And, when she wasn't playing with the buttons, she was moving the rotating gears back and forth.  At first, I had to show her that they moved and how to move each piece.  But, after a few assisted and then unassisted tries, she got the hang of it.

Overall, I have to say this is a great toy, and one that has quickly become a favorite of my daughter's, as it includes everything she likes, buttons, lights, sounds and moving pieces.  And, when she is not pulling the cute turtle around, she can easily pick it up and carry it from one place to another.  So, when family and friends come to visit, one of the toys Savannah is eager to show them, is her new Funtime Activity Turtle.

In addition to this toy, the Learning Journey International offers an extensive line of toys and games for children of all ages.  So, depending on your child's age and learning ability, you are bound to find a toy that will provide them with hours of entertainment and learning fun.

Out of all her toys, there are one of her favorites, as she is at the “button pushing” stage, and likes to see the toy light up and the glitter inside move about.  Now, when I am cooking in the kitchen, she brings in her toaster, coffee pot and blender, and pretends to work alongside me.  It is the cutest thing!  Not only is she learning pretend play with these 3 toys, she is also learning cause and effect.  She now knows that if she pushes the buttons, they toys will light up.

I have purchased various other so-called learning toys for my daughter, only to be disappointed with the quality of the product, as it either didn’t keep my daughter’s attention, wasn’t properly made, or didn’t do what it was supposed to do.  But, not with Lakeshore.  I was overly impressed with the toys I had ordered, and will continue to shop here from now on for birthday gifts and other learning toy needs.  And, I have begun telling me friends about this amazing store and their product selection, when they ask me where to find great educational, play toys.

My Thoughts:

I was recently sent a Los Animales and Las Estaciones on DVD, as well as !A bailar! on CD to review with my 16 month old daughter, Savannah, thanks to the kind folks at Whistlefritz. 

Produced by Whistlefritz, Spanish for Kids is an award-winning Spanish immersion DVD series featuring the adorable Fritzi, a lovable, animated mouse who interacts with live-action adults and children to teach Spanish.  Viewers learn to understand and speak Spanish by hearing and speaking Spanish without the use of English translation.  Having won over 20 prestigious family media awards, Whistlefritz DVDs and CDs are a proven method of introducing your child to the Spanish language through fun animation, catchy songs and engaging dialogue.  In no time, you child will be talking and singing in Spanish.

With my husband being bi-lingual in English and Spanish, and most of his family speaking mainly Spanish, we have been making an effort since Savannah was born to introduce her to both the English and Spanish languages through reading, singing and talking.  Even though I took over 9 years of Spanish in high school and college, I can only read and write Spanish.  So, I am relying on my husband to teach her to speak Spanish correctly.  I can do the basics -- counting, naming colors, etc. but when it comes to putting complex sentences together, I need to ask my husband to help or translate English into Spanish. 

And, because I am home with Savannah during the day, I want to be able to work on language development with her.  So, I have picked up various bi-lingual DVDs and CDS that claim to teach young children, as young as 12 months the Spanish language effortlessly.  I am also using these learning tools to help me expand my Spanish speaking abilities.  Having tried out a few of these DVDs in the past, I was disappointed to find that these DVDs weren't worth the investment.  Some of the DVDs provided content that was incorrect (ie. pronouncing Spanish words wrong), or so-called easy learning wasn't.

Having never heard of Whistlefritz prior to receiving these DVDs and CD to review, I kept an open mind when viewing their products.  In addition, I had my husband view the videos and listen to the music to make sure that the Spanish language was taught correctly and to take his take on the ease of learning and use of Spanish immersion to teach young children the Spanish language.

My husband said that this series the best series he has seen, and loved the use of Fritz to the mouse to keep the attention of young children.  And, a few of the songs on the !A Bailar! CD were so catchy, that he now sings them to Savannah at night time. And, he is usually not a singer.  I am the one learning and singing Spanish nursery rhymes and lullabies to Savannah and her sister, Arabella.

I have been using these DVDs and CD with Savannah for the past month, and have to say that I, too, am impressed with the way that the Spanish language is introduced to children.  I wish that these types of learning tools were used back in high school, as I would have grasped the speaking part a lot better.  So, not only is Savannah learning Spanish, but I am too. 

What a great DVD series this is.  And, when we go on car rides, I make sure that that we bring along !A Bailar! to sing and dance along to.  I can tell that Savannah is loving this product and learning in the process, as she can hold up her fingers when my husband counts in Spanish and can point to colors when he calls them out in Spanish.  As she gets older, I know she will pick up more Spanish vocabulary and comprehend more of the content presented in the samples I received.  But, for now, we are pleased with her basic comprehension and eagerness to watch these great learning tools.

My Review:

I received this toy about a month ago, and my 16 month old daughter is still playing with it today.  Like most children, she usually spend 1-2 days playing with a new toy, but then is done with it after that.  But, not with the Spin & Sound Toy.  Savannah loves spinning this toy and watching it play music, while spinning around.  And, with her molars coming in, this is a great teething toy as well.  Instead of chewing on our furniture or other non-teething toys, she can find relief by chewing on the handles of this toy.  What a great multi-purpose toy this is! 

I have always been a fan of Alex Toys, as they offer durable educational products for babies+.  And, this product ranks up there as one of the best that we have.  I love how Savannah is learning cause and effect, by spinning around the rattle, and watching is unravel down the stand, all while playing music.  When she is not playing with the rattle part of the toy, or chewing on the handles, Savannah loves to look at herself in the mirror, which is included in the base of the toy.  What baby doesn’t like to look at themselves in the mirror?  The features of this toy is great, and provides my daughter with hours of enjoyable.
