Tiggly Helps Make the Most Out of Digital Playtime with Your Early Learner (Review)

Tiggly Shapes & Apps

Earlier this year, I shared a review of a fun new kids i-Pad-compatible, education-based tech toy called Tiggly with you.  At that time, my oldest daughter was 3 years old and right in the middle of the suggested age range for this tech toy, which is 18 months to 4 years old.

She couldn't get enough of this toy and loved the educational apps that were available at that time that she could use the fun Tiggly shapes with. Savannah had a blast creating fun drawings and listening to all the different sound effects that are included with the Tiggly apps.  As a parent, I loved seeing how creative she was when creating scenes using the Tiggly shapes, and how she could use the 4 basic shapes to create art, play music and more, all while learning and having fun.  If you missed my initial post, you can read it here -- http://www.inspiredbysavannah.com/2014/02/tiggly-offers-interactive-ipad-toys-and.html.

Since receiving the Tiggly Shapes and downloading the apps onto our iPad, Savannah would spend time daily asking for and playing with the Tiggly shapes and apps.  She learned colors and shape recognition from this, as well as added many new words to her growing vocabulary.  She loved saying, "Tiggly" and would giggle when doing so, as she thought it was a silly name.  But, when it came to using the iPad, I knew that this tech toy was just perfect for her.

But, if you have young children, you know that they eventually move onto to others things.  And, while Savannah still used Tiggly from time to time, she was more into the storybook and sing-along apps that featured her favorite animated characters.  And, as  a busy mom, I totally forgot about Tiggly when Bella, our youngest, started to show interest in the iPad. It wasn't until recently when I was asked to review Tiggly and their apps with my girls that I remembered why we loved this tech toy and its apps so much.

Savannah is now 4 years and knows her colors and shapes, so I thought that the apps from Tiggly were a little too young for her. That didn't stop her from acting like the big sister and showing Bella the ropes from it came to navigating the Tiggly apps and how to tap the Tiggly shapes on the iPad screen.  And, just like when we introduced Tiggly to Savannah a couple of years ago, Bella's eyes lit up and she has yet to stop asking for Tiggly when I tell them it is iPad time.  She, too, is adding new words to her vocabulary, just like Savannah.  But, most importantly, with the four basic colors, blue, red, yellow and green that the 4 Tiggley shapes come in, she is finally learning to recognize and say the correct color name.

Before Tiggly, if I was to ask her what an object's color was, she would randomly say a color.  Thanks to the Tiggly apps, she sees the shape on the screen and will call out the color as she grabs the shape.  It is wonderful to see her learning and having fun.  And, although I thought Savannah was a little advanced for the apps, she, too, is getting back into wanting to play with the Tiggly shapes and the 3 apps that are available for use with the tech toy.

Currently Tiggly offers the following three apps available for download on iTunes, that you can use with your Tiggly Shapes...

iPad Screenshot 1

Lions and dolphins and pigs, oh my! Use your Tiggly shapes to construct friendly animals from the jungle, farm, and sea. Tiggly Safari is an excellent learning experience for your children to learn about shapes and to improve their spatial thinking.

Each level of the game is designed based on what we know about children’s spatial cognition development. In the first level, children match shapes with what they see on the screen and create simple animals out of single shapes. As the levels proceed, children are challenged to create more complex animals with combinations of shapes, recognize and match basic shapes in various orientations, and practice their hand-eye coordination by catching moving objects— all while being amazed by the cute animals they are creating!

Recommended age: 18 months - 4 years old

Out of the following three FREE Tiggly apps available for download through the iTunes store, Savannah's personal favorite is Tiggly Safari, as she is into owls and other fun jungle animals, and loves how she can use the Tiggly shapes to make the animals and then hears their name and sounds.  As for Bella, she loves all three apps, but I find her continually clicking on and playing with the Tiggly Stamp one, which I mentioned above has helped with her color recognition.

If you have little ones between the ages of 18 months and 4 years, and want to provide educational content and games for them to play with while using your iPad (compatible with all generations of the iPad, including the iPad mini), why not check out Tiggly.  It was so nice to go back to this tech toy, and see why the girls and I loved it two years ago.  And, now, I can watch Bella have fun, while learning, with her big sister lending a hand if needed. :-)

Struggling to Potty Train Your Toddler...or Just Getting Started? Check Out the Fun New App, Me-ify Potty Star! That Makes This Milestone Fun! #Sponsored

Disclosure: I was selected to participate a review of this new app from MomSelect and Me-ify Potty Star.  In addition to being provided a promo code to download the app, I was also compensated for my time in reviewing and writing up my post.  However, all views shared are mine and mine alone.

iPhone Screenshot 1

I never would have thought that potty training would be so difficult, especially with girls.  Whenever I heard friends talk about their potty training experiences, they oftentimes would say it was done in a day or a weekend.  Well, that has not been the case with my girls.  We were so close at getting Savannah potty trained when she turned two.  She showed all the signs of wanting to potty train and even went a few days sitting on the potty and going, or telling me to bring her to the potty when it was not in sight.  But, then we welcomed her little sister and she saw the extra attention and time with Mommy and Daddy, that Savannah reverted back to diapers.  Now, fast forward a year, and we are still going through a box of diapers every two weeks -- what an expense!

While Arabella, who turned 2 back in Nov., is advanced in many ways, as she has been talking since 9 months old, can say her ABCs and count to 15, we still have to remind ourselves she is younger and may not be ready to potty train.  I don't want to rush her and get everyone frustrated.  So, as I wait for her to show us signs that she is ready to potty train, I have been working with Savannah to show her the benefits of using the potty and giving up diapers for big girl panties.  But, I think she wants to wait until sister is ready to potty train and do it together.  In the meantime, she is slowly warming up to by listening to potty training books, watching some of her favorite characters on television in potty training episodes, and now playing with a fun new app called Me-ify Potty Star from Out of the Blue Enterprises LLC.  We have been trying out different potty training antics for the past year, but something seems to grab Savannah's attention more than this fun new app does.

"Me-ify Potty Star is the all-inclusive potty training tool for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch! This comprehensive app features a personalized eBook starring your child, 5 interactive potty games, 5 original potty songs, a reusable star rewards chart and helpful potty training tips. Developed with parenting expert Julie A. Ross and created by the producers of PBS KIDS preschool television hits, Super Why! and Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, this app offers a rich and engaging learning experience that is based on developmentally appropriate potty training techniques."

Savannah had a blast helping create her own unique potty Super Star and even said her name for the recording.
iPhone Screenshot 3

So, now whenever she has the story read to her, she hears her own voice and name, which she thinks is neat.  If the cute interactive story wasn't enough, this fun potty training app comes with 5 interactive potty games and 5 catchy songs centered around potty training.

iPhone Screenshot 2

And, navigating through each of the features of this app (Available at the iTunes store for only $1.99) is easy.  I am always amazed at how quickly the girls can pick up new technology, or navigate through a new app like they do -- a little scary, too!

Savannah has been playing with this app daily, and makes a point to show everyone who comes to visit.  Just this past weekend, my dad spent over an hour being schooled on potty training, the parts of the body, which parents can select the words they use when identifying parts so that their children will understand (which I love), and having Savannah sing him her favorite potty songs. :-)

iPhone Screenshot 4

Just look at the cute graphics this app offers.  Kids can choose the toilet seat backing they want from a selection of design options.  This is also the same design you see on the potty star they create. In the above example, the little boy has trucks on his shirt and one on the back of the toilet seat.  Savannah ended up choosing an owl. :-)

Because I was reviewing this app, I created both a boy and girl potty star to see if there were any differences.  The story stays the same.  But, you find when it comes to using the potty, that the little boy gets to try target practice inside the potty, and reminded not to hit the toilet seat.  Savannah couldn't help but giggle at this.

Savannah also found the part of the story where they show how cats and dogs go potty, and how they are different from humans.  When she wasn't saying "Ehh" at the doggy going pee pee or the cat going poo poo, she couldn't help but laugh.  This was also one section that she would stay longer on or hit the page back arrow to do again.

Another fun feature of this potty training app is the reusable rewards chart that you can mark and celebrate your child's potty accomplishments with. I don't know about you, but my kids love stickers.  So, whenever I am looking for ways to reward good behavior, we turn to stickers and a rewards chart like this.

iPhone Screenshot 5

Like I said, while I am still waiting for the green light for the girls to let me know they are ready to start potty training, this is a fun app to keep reminding Savannah about all the fun she can have and what a milestone potty training and saying goodbye to diapers really is.  Maybe she will come to me and want to potty train again, and Bella will want to copy her big sister and follow suite.  :-)  This app is getting Savannah talking about the potty and sharing how to go potty and wash up afterwards with her little sister -- so, you never know.  I know like so many other parents with little ones in diapers that I am ready to say goodbye to diapers and hello to big girl panties. How about you?  Are you struggling to potty train your child, or waiting for signs that they are ready to start?  If so, why not check out the fun new Me-ify Potty Star app with your child?  I know you will find this app as enjoyable as my daughters have, as you embark on potty training and celebrating another milestone with your child as they grow up and become more independent.

Visit the iTunes app store to learn more about the new Me-ify Potty Star app, or to purchase and download for only $1.99 --  https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/me-ify-potty-star!/id732047695?mt=8.

My Thoughts:

I downloaded this app for Savannah on Friday, and she hasn't stopping playing with it all weekend.  If you follow my blog, then you know that both my daughters, especially Savannah, love the animated hit television series, Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! and that I often review DVD releases from Anchor Bay Entertainment of this series.  So, it was only fitting that I download and share a Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! app with her.  It wasn't until last week that I was made aware of Cupcake Digital, Inc., and all their wonderful apps for kids.

Here is a quick video that Cupcake Digital, Inc. shared on YouTube about this new app release, just to give you a feel for this must-have app for kids.

Looks like a cool app, huh?  Well, it really is.  I spent a couple hours over the weekend playing with this app with Savannah, and loved the interactive fun this app offers Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! fans.  Almost everything on each page of the storybook comes to life with a tap of the screen.  Children have the option of having the story read to them, or reading it themselves.  I love this feature, as I can either read it to Savannah when we are having Mommy and Me time and she wants to have her interactive storybook apps read to her.  Or, when I am busy tending to her little sister, she can have the story read to her, and tap away, bringing the story to life.

Overall, this is fun app, that will provide hours of entertainment to children, especially Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! fans.  And, make sure you check out the other Cupcake Digital, Inc. apps available.  I can't wait to hear which of their apps your children like. :-)

---------

My Thoughts:

You cannot walk into our house without seeing Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the television, playing on the iPad, or countless dolls, books, and other memorabila laying around the house.  This Disney Junior is a favorite of both my daughters and was the recent 1st birthday theme for Arabella's birthday a couple of week's ago.  So, it was only fitting to download and review the new app available now iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, titled Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Mickey’s Wildlife Count Along

 iPhone Screenshot 5

Savannah is beginning to learn her numbers and early math skills, so this educational app came in handy to help her with her counting from 1-10.  But, the best part about this app for her was seeing all the familiar faces of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse gang, and hearing their voices.  When she wasn't matching animals to their appropriate habitats, she was admiring the amazing animation of the app, and the Tap, Shake, and Tilt feature, which made her giggle.  Even though we have only had this game for a little over a day, I can see that is has become of her favorites, next to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally, which she plays on a daily basis.  And, with upcoming holiday car rides to visit family and friends, I am looking for great apps that will not only keep her entertained on the long drives, but also provide educational benefits. This new app fits the bill, and really is fun to play with.  I found myself getting into the matching game with Savannah this afternoon, as she showed me how to use the app. :-) Here I am getting a lesson from a two year old on how to use the app.

Do you have a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse fan in your house and have an iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch to download apps to?  Then, why not download this app, which is only $1.99, to keep your little ones entertained?  Any Mickey Mouse Clubhouse fan will go crazy for this app.  I know as Savannah still grins from ear to ear each time she taps on the app to play it. :-)

Apps for Kids -- Toca Tailor from Toca Boca (Review)

Design and style your own clothes!

"Calling all aspiring clothiers!  It’s time to dream, design, cut and alter and accessorize.  Toca Tailor, the latest digital toy app from Toca Boca, taps kids’ imagination with a creative canvas to design and style fun outfits for four discerning and quirky characters.

Kids choose from an array of clothing designs, then tailor them by adjusting hemlines, lengthening sleeves and adding signature designer touches along the way such as buttons, pockets and other original details.

In addition to mixing and matching pre-set colors, prints and fabrics, Toca Tailor features the ability to take a photo of your own unique patterns from the surrounding area then apply it to a design.  For example, if the tweed pattern of family sofa catches your eye, it can become the fabric for the trousers you’re designing.  Not only does this fun camera element allow for a limitless design palette, it can also be used to grab an image that becomes the environmental background for your character as well as taking a photo of the final design creation.

And, as everyone knows, accessories make the outfit so once the attire is assembled, it is time to add finishing touches such as hats, shoes, bags, glasses and much more.

Kids can also find inspiration for new creations by checking out www.tocatailor.com for weekly design themes where they can view and submit images of spiffed out characters."

KEY FEATURES
  • Four fun characters
  • Mix, match, rotate and adjust 24 different fabric patterns
  • Create your own unique patterns with the camera feature
  • Add 24 different clothing details – buttons, bows and much, much more
  • Style characters with 30 cool accessories – glasses, moustaches, jewelry
  • Built-in camera to create your own background for style snapshots
  • Limitless design combinations

My Thoughts:

The Toca Tailor app is geared towards children ages 4+, and works with the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.  I was sent a promo code to try out this fun app for our iPad, and it has become an instant hit with Savannah.  Even though she is only 2 1/2, she quickly grasped the concept of this app, and has been having a blast creating outfits for the four characters.  Here are a few photos she saved (note: I didn't show her how to save -- she figured it out on her own) ;-)

Do you think we have a fashion designer on our hands?  We'll have to wait and see.  But, in the meantime, I know Savannah will continue to enjoy designing with the Toca Tailor app, which she plays with daily.  You should see how excited she gets when she created a new outfit -- she runs over to me and shows off the outfit, as she describes it.  It is so cute to see.  What a fun app for kids, that not only introduces them to fashion design, but lets them be creative.  And, unlike other apps I have downloaded for her, this app and others from Toca Boca doesn't have any third-party advertising or in-app purchases.  Now I don't have to worry about her running over to me when an in-app ad pops up, or find out later on that she purchased additional scenes or products with a simple click.  :-)

"As with all Toca Boca toys, Toca Tailor presents a kid-friendly interface promoting creative, open-style play with no rules or time limits.  It’s all about fun and imaginative play -- your own way." So, what are you waiting for?  Head on over to iTunes and download this and other Toca Boca apps to keep your children entertained.
