CHILDREN LEARN TO SOLVE PROBLEMS WITH

DVD Available from PBS Distribution on October 2, 2018

Episodes of the PBS KIDS Series Also Available Now on Digital

If you are looking for a fun DVD that is not only entertaining for preschoolers, but also helps them learn to read and recognize letters and basic sight words, then you will want to check out Super Why, which airs daily on PBS Kids.  And, now you can pick up a new Super Why DVD, that features two cute stories about Little Bo Beep and her sheep.

My girls loved this show when they were little, and will still watch it from time to time on television.  They love the stories, and helping to solve the secret word or phrase at the end of the show, after helping to collect letters throughout the episode.  These two episodes have already aired on television, but are worth checking out again.  Right now you can score this new DVD for under $5, making it a great DVD to pick up and leave in the car if you have a DVD player, or to pull out for a sick or rainy day.

When my girls saw this DVD arrive in the mail the other day, they were curious about the stories, as they hadn't seen them before, as it has been awhile since they last watched this popular animated series.  They sat and watched the two stories, which together had a run time of 55 minutes, during lunch.  And, after it was over, I found them pulling out other Super Why DVDs to watch again.  I guess this DVD got the hooked again, on this fun show.

Do you have a Super Why fan in your life?  If you do, then you don't want to miss out on picking up this new DVD, which arrives in stores tomorrow.

PBS DISTRIBUTION TO RELEASE NEW DVD:

Super Why: Super Why Sleeping Beauty & Other

DVD Available October 31, 2017; Episodes Available Now on Digital HD

My girls are both sick with head colds, so we have found ourselves catching up DVD reviews. Yesterday, the girls sat and watched this upcoming DVD release, and really enjoyed it.  They are both Super Why fans and have already seen these 4 fairytale episodes, but like other PBS Kids show they watch on a regular basis, they are always up for watching them again.  And, with shows like Super Why I wouldn't have it any other way, as they are not only fun to watch, but are also educational.  Super Why helped me girls learn their ABC's and when they were ready, helped them with learning how to read and spelling and sounding out words.

Bella, my girly girl, really enjoyed this DVD as she is all about princesses and fairytales.  She was excited to see that this DVD included Sleeping Beauty, one of her favorite classic tales.  As soon as the girls saw this DVD arrive at our house the other day, Bella was quick to pull out another Super Why Fairytales Adventure DVD which we received and I reviewed back in 2015. This previous release included Cinderella.  The DVD was easily accessible as the girls have continued to watch this DVD since we received two years ago.

This DVD really cheered them up, as they yelled the correct words and pointed to letters floating on the screen.  And, I loved seeing them learning while also being entertained. So, it was a win-win for all of us. :-)

If you have a Super Why fan in your life, then you will want to pick up this upcoming DVD release so that they can add to their growing Super Why DVD collection.  My girls are back to watching this DVD right now as I write up this post, and I know they will be watching for years to come. :-)

More about this upcoming DVD release:

"Today, PBS Distribution announced the DVD release of “SUPER WHY!: SLEEPING BEAUTY AND OTHER FAIRYTALE ADVENTURES.” The new DVD from the hit PBS KIDS series takes the Super Readers on four classic fairytale adventures.

First, the Super Readers soar into the tale of Sleeping Beauty. When Sleeping Beauty just wants to snooze all day instead of playing outside with her friends, Super Why and the gang use their literacy powers to encourage her to try new things. Then, the Super Readers help a princess and a frog learn how to compromise and play together. Super Why and his friends also discover the secrets of the Twelve Dancing Princesses, and more.

SUPER WHY!: SLEEPING BEAUTY AND OTHER FAIRYTALE ADVENTURES” ($9.99 SRP) will be available on DVD beginning October 31, 2017 and has a run time of approximately 113 minutes. Episodes included on the DVD are also available for digital download.

The episodes on this DVD include:

“Sleeping Beauty”
The Super Readers travel into the famous story of Sleeping Beauty to speak with a Princess who loves sleeping just as much as Princess Pea loves tea parties! The Super Readers apply their literacy powers to wake Sleeping Beauty…and wake her…and wake her again! Can they convince their new friend that there’s more to life than snoozing or will she always find other activities a big snore?

“The Frog Prince”
Princess Pea wants to do ballet, and Spider wants to spin webs, so how will these two friends play together? To find some answers, the Super Readers check out The Frog Prince and meet another Princess who can’t see eye to eye with her friend. Will the Super Readers be able to help the Princess and the Frog kiss and make up?

“The Twelve Dancing Princesses”
Whyatt’s family is acting very sneaky and he wants to know why! The Super Readers waltz into the story of the Twelve Dancing Princesses – who are acting just as secretive.  The Super Readers may be hot on the trail of the Princesses to discover what they’re concealing, but will Whyatt uncover what his family is hiding?

“Princess Gwennie Saves the Day”
Princess Pea is feeling dramatic (as usual) and she and Red are staging a play. Princess is pretending she’s a queen but Red doesn’t know what to be! The Super Readers fly into the story of a princess with a silly sense of humor and a big job to do. They help Gwennie use her talents to save the day, and Red discovers her own special gifts.

"SUPERWHY: BILLY GOATS GRUFF" DVD Available Today from PBS Kids (DVD Review)

Disclosure:  I was sent a screener copy from the vendor in order to write up an honest review.  All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Superwhy: Three Billy Goats Gruff & Other Fairy

Popular PBS KIDS Series SUPER WHY Helps Kids Learn Reading Skills

"PBS Distribution announced today it is releasing four stories from PBS KIDS’ popular SUPER WHY series on the new DVD “THE THREE BILLY GOATS GRUFF AND OTHER FAIRYTALE ADVENTURES” on January 26, 2016. The four reading-powered adventures on this DVD not only help kids with the critical skills they need to learn to read, they also provide them with important life lessons. Two of the lessons kids will take away after watching these stories are the importance of good manners and that in order to learn a new skill, you need to be persistent and keep trying!

The four stories included on this DVD are “The Three Billy Goats Gruff,” “The Tortoise and the Hare,” “The Ugly Duckling” and “The Elves and the Shoemaker.” In “The Three Billy Goats Gruff,” Red’s grandmother won’t let her into the kitchen to have some red velvet cake, and she doesn’t know why. In order to find the answer, the Super Readers jump into the book “The Three Billy Goats Gruff.” After watching a troll stop all three goats from crossing his bridge, the answer emerges. The Super Readers also jump into the story “The Tortoise and the Hare!” In this episode the Super Readers spell the words G-O and B-E-L-L and learn that participating in a contest isn’t always about winning, it’s also important to enjoy the game."

---

Both of my girls are huge fans of Super Why and have learned so much since they began watching it.  Bella is strengthening her ABC's while Savannah has learned so many new words and how to spell them, just by watching this fun educational series.  So, whenever there is a new DVD available, I make a point to pick up a copy, so that I can share with the girls either at home or on the go in the car.  While most episodes that release on DVD have already aired, as have the 4 full-length episodes that make up this DVD, the girls will still watch them, as if they are seeing them for the first time (each and every time).  They can't get enough of Super Why! and you know what...I can't either.  It really is a wonderful show for preschoolers and even kindergarten and first grade, and the theme song is oh so catchy.

If you have a Super Why fan in your house, then you will want to make a point to pick up this new DVD, which arrives in stores today.  This new DVD has a run time of approximately 120 minutes and an SRP of $12.99. The episodes included on this DVD are listed below.  You will find the following episodes...

The Three Billy Goats Gruff
Grandma will not let Red into the kitchen to get some extra special red velvet cake – and it’s making Red really mad! The Super Readers head into the story of “The Three Billy Goats Gruff,” who really want to cross the troll’s bridge…only this time the troll gets to tell his side of the story. The Super Readers wonder if anyone can make those rude goats behave, and Red figures out what she needs to tell Grandma.

The Tortoise and the Hare
Princess Pea and Red are partners in a potato sack race but can’t decide whether to go slow and steady, or fast. The Super Readers fly into the famous race between the tortoise and the hare to help the friends decide on a winning strategy. By the time they have reached the finish line, they’ve learned that winning isn’t always about coming in first.

The Ugly Duckling
Princess Pea’s twirls are falling flat and her dance recital is just days away. The Super Readers soar into the story of “The Ugly Duckling,” who’s having just as much trouble learning to swim. With hard work and determination, the Ugly Duckling finally hits his stride and Princess Pea learns that practice makes perfect.

The Elves and the Shoemaker
Wyatt has a secret admirer and he wants to know who it is. The Super Readers visit the story “The Elves and the Shoemaker” and discover that the shoemaker is just as curious about his own secret friends. After helping the shoemaker write a note to the elves, Wyatt figures out a way to uncover his own mystery friend.

I love classic tales, and have already shared these stories with the girls at bedtime over and over again.  So, it is nice to bring the stories to life with these fun educational spins on the classics.  I wish I could tell you that my girls had a favorite out of the four episodes, but every time I asked them for a favorite, they would name each and every episode. :-)  Let's see if your little one can choose a favorite. And, don't' forget SUPER WHY airs weekdays on PBS KIDS (check local listings).

The Super Readers along with Woofster take a trip around the world with a wacky explorer named Wobblebottom, who is on the hunt for his friend Sophie. My Thoughts:

I was sent an advance copy of the SUPER WHY! Around the World Adventure which will premiere on June 15th on PBS, and then made available for purchase on DVD on June 19th.  Savannah is a huge Super Why! fan and has learned many of her new words and the alphabet by this animated series.  This is one of the few shows that I as a parent find engaging, educational and fun to watch, and enjoy sitting down with Savannah daily to tune and watch it with her.  I love watching her get excited when Wyatt and his friends jump into the storybooks in order to solve problems that they have.  Then, once they have all the "Super Letters" they make a word that describes how to rectify a problem they are having.  This show teaches young children important lessons, like sharing, friendship, teamwork, in a fun and educational way.  This is one of the few shows that Savannah sits through, without getting distracted.

We have been seeing previews for SUPER WHY! Around the World Adventure when we tune into her PBS shows, and have been counting down the days until June 15th, when it is to premiere on PBS.  But, I surprised Savannah yesterday with an advanced copy. You should have seen her eyes light up when I handed her the DVD.  And, as a treat, we watched the two new episodes while her sister took a nap.  As we snuggled together on the couch, Savannah couldn't wait to see what adventures the SUPER WHY! Super Readers go on.

It was hard to choose a favorite between the three episodes, as they were all so entertaining.  We loved the new character, Wobblebottom, who took them on an adventure around the world.  It is always nice to see new characters, like Woofster the dog, that they included recently, and who is included in the third cowboy-themed episode on this new DVD, Jasper's Cowboy Wish.  Savannah loved the second episode which had the Super Readers trying to figure out a special code that will unlock a treasure.  Halfway through the episode, Savannah got off the couch and sat on her chair near the television, as she was really getting into the episode and wanted to see if they were going to find the treasure.

Even though we have seen the advance screening of these episodes, they are so enjoyable to watch, that we will tune in again on June 15th, as well as watch on her PBS Kids iPad app.  If your child is a fan of SUPER WHY!, make sure you mark your calendars, and catch these two new episodes.  Then, head back here and let me know what you thought of them.
