Looking for a last minute gift idea for Mom?  If she loved the new Beauty and Beast movie, still out in theaters, why not surprise her with the CD soundtrack?  I was sent the digital copy of the soundtrack back in March and still continue to listen it.  And, thanks to the kind folks at Walt Disney Records, they surprised me with a hard copy of the CD so that I can bring in the car and listen with my girls as we all sing along to our favorite Beauty and the Beast songs from the movie, which we have seen 6 times so far. :-)

Here is my review I shared back in March about this wonderful CD soundtrack, which would put a smile on any Mom's face this Mother's Day... :-)

My Review of this CD...

My girls and I can't wait until this Friday.  We have tickets to the 12 PM showtime of the new Beauty and the Beast movie.  I know we are not alone in the excitement of this new Disney movie, as my Facebook feed blows up every day with either new movie clips, friends commenting and sharing the John Legend and Ariana Grande music video, or just leaving comments about counting down like we are until the movie's release.  This is the one movie my girls and I couldn't wait to see for 2017.  I was going to keep the movie this Friday a secret, but the girls have been keeping a countdown chain so they knew when the movie would be in theaters.  And, they have been good with chores and doing their schoolwork, so instead of an allowance they asked last month to see this movie instead.  :-)  I couldn't say "No," as I really wanted to see this movie.  If you were a fan of the original Beauty and the Beast movie released in the 90's, then you will definitely want to check out this new version.

I know what you are thinking...remakes of classic films are never good.  But, if you haven't seen the trailer for this new release, you really have to check it out.  I was a fan of Emma Watson in the Harry Potter films, so knew she would be a great Belle when I heard them talking about the movie being made.  She is simply stunning in the infamous dress at the end of the movie.

The other day I surprised the girls with the Beauty and The Beast Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, which released back on 3/10. I was sent the digital copy of the CD to preview.  As soon as I started to play the tracks, the girls were quick to run to their dress up station to put on their Belle gowns.  Then, they took to the middle of the living to dance and sing along to the CD.  They especially loved the track Evermore by Josh Groban, as well as the duet “Beauty and the Beast” by GRAMMY® nominated and multi-platinum selling artist Ariana Grande and 10-time GRAMMY, Oscar®-winning and multi-platinum selling singer/songwriter/ musician John Legend. But, if you asked them if they had a favorite of all the 19 tracks we were sent to preview, they would say them all.  I have lost count of how many times we have listened to this soundtrack.  And, I know that once we see the movie on Friday, they will want to listen to it more. :-)

The CD contains the following tracks...

  1. Overture (From Beauty and the Beas/Score) (Alan Menken)

  2. Main Title: Prologue Pt. 1 (From Beauty and the Beast/Score) (Alan Menken)

  3. Aria (From Beauty and the Beast/Soundtrack Version) (Audra McDonald)

  19. Evermore (From Beauty and the Beast/Soundtrack Version) (Josh Groban)

And, here is more about the new Beauty and The Beast Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, which is a must have for all Beauty and the Beast fans, and lovers of Disney movie soundtracks...

" Available now wherever music is sold and streamed, the “Beauty and the Beast” original motion picture soundtrack features an unforgettable score from eight-time Oscar®-winning composer Alan Menken along with new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and two-time Academy Award® winner Howard Ashman. Also included are three new songs written by Menken and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice.

The story and characters audiences know and love come to spectacular life in Disney’s live-action adaptation of “Beauty and the Beast,” a stunning, cinematic event celebrating one of the most beloved tales ever told. Directed by Bill Condon from a screenplay by Stephen Chbosky and Evan Spiliotopoulos based on the 1991 animated film, “Beauty and the Beast” stars: Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Kevin Kline, Josh Gad, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Audra McDonald with Ian McKellen and Emma Thompson. “Beauty and the Beast” opens in U.S. theaters on March 17, 2017.

From early on, one of Condon’s key objectives was to build upon the story from the animated classic, and the Oscar-winning director realized music could play a significant role in making that happen. By finding interesting variations on beloved songs like “Be Our Guest” and “Gaston” and with the addition of new songs, music could help push the story forward while elevating its emotional content at the same time.

New songs featured in the film and included on the soundtrack are: “Evermore,” a soaring ballad performed by the Beast (Dan Stevens); the heartwarming “Days in the Sun,” sung by Belle (Emma Watson), the Beast and the castle’s enchanted staff; and “How Does a Moment Last Forever,” sung by Maurice (Kevin Kline) and in a reprise, by Belle.

The soundtrack also features three brand new recordings including the duet “Beauty and the Beast” by GRAMMY® nominated and multi-platinum selling artist Ariana Grande and 10-time GRAMMY, Oscar®-winning and multi-platinum selling singer/songwriter/ musician John Legend. The iconic song originally recorded by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson, features Alan Menken’s haunting melody and Howard Ashman’s memorable lyrics, and, upon its release in 1991, went on to receive an Academy Award®, Golden Globe® and GRAMMY Award. The music video for “Beauty and the Beast” was directed by Dave Meyers (P!nk’s “Just Like Fire,”  Katy Perry’s “Firework”) and can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axySrE0Kg6k.

In addition, five-time GRAMMY winning and best-selling recording artist Celine Dion performs “How Does A Moment Last Forever” and multi-platinum international recording artist and songwriter Josh Groban performed the third track, “Evermore.”

The “Beauty and the Beast” original motion picture soundtrack features 19 tracks and is available wherever music is sold and streamed (http://disneymusic.co/BeautySndtrkPhttp://disneymusic.co/BeautySndtrkhttp://disneymusic.co/BeautySndtrkWS). The Beauty and the Beast two-disc deluxe edition and the digital deluxe edition soundtrack, which are also available March 10, feature additional tracks including score, demos and outtakes."

Titles include Disney Princess, Winnie the Pooh, Toy Story, Beauty and the Beast,

It’s A Small World, and more!

Disney Publishing Worldwide, the world’s largest publisher of children’s books and magazines, is dominating the App Store charts with six new children’s titles in the Books, Entertainment, and Education categories.  Entering the New Year as a leading publisher of children’s book apps, Disney Publishing has garnered more than 7 million App Store downloads to-date with apps including:

· "Beauty and the Beast: Storybook Deluxe" – Rated 5-stars by Common Sense Media, this app - newly released in 3-D - allows children to experience a tale as old as time in storybook form.  Complete with games, movie clips, puzzles, coloring pages, and sing-along songs from the film, kids will find a surprise on every page. Hear the story read aloud, record your own narration, or explore at your own pace. (MSRP $6.99)

Review coming soon…

· “Don’t Let the Pigeon Run This App!” – Rated as one of the “Best Apps in 2011” by iTunes, this app features the creative work of three-time Caldecott Honoree Mo Willems, who brings the Pigeon to the digital screen with this original, feature-rich, animated app.  The app lets users create your own Pigeon stories and is fully animated with hilarious shake-and-play technology and customized voice integration.  (MSRP $6.99)

--Click here to read my review of this great app--

· "It's A Small World" – Recommended by Consumer Reports, this app gives families a chance to experience the “It’s A Small World” ride, song, and lyrics in an inspiring new way. Taking readers on a world-class adventure, the app is packed with whimsical interactivity, beautiful artwork by illustrator Joey Chou, and unforgettable music. Featuring the original Sherman Brothers’ song lyrics, this simple, poetic story encourages kids to meet new people, explore new places, and discover that it’s a small world, after all. (MSRP $3.99)

My Thoughts:

We just reviewed this last weekend and loved it.  I wanted to get Savannah familiar with all the wonderful Disney classics, as we were taking her to see Disney on Ice last Thursday.  Savannah couldn’t stop dancing to the song and loved tapping away on the iPad screen at the children, which were interactive.  The children would act out “sad, happy, etc.” based on the song.  I especially love the beautiful artwork that was turned into an app.  It reminded me of my trips to Disney World as a child. This has always been a favorite ride and song for me, and it is nice to see it as an app now.  It will definitely become a parent/child favorite, like the rest of the Disney interactive apps.

image

· “Pooh’s Birthday Surprise” – Rated 5-stars by Common Sense Media, this storybook app features Winnie the Pooh illustrations and exciting tap-and-play animation designed to help children acquire and reinforce early literacy and pre-math concepts. As children read along with the word-by-word narration, they are invited to join in the birthday party planning with their favorite friends in the Hundred-Acre Wood. (MSRP $4.99)

My Thoughts:

I grew up loving Winnie the Pooh and Eeyore, so I couldn’t wait to share this app with Savannah.  Unfortunately, she didn’t find it as appealing as I did.  I loved how you could tap on the characters and they would come to life, making the story more enjoyable.  If you are a fan, like I am, of the Hundred-Acre Wood and Pooh characters, you will love this app.

image

· "Toy Story Showtime!" – Rated as one of “15 Fantastic iPad Apps for Kids” by Apple Gazette, this storybook app is designed to help children explore essential early reading concepts. Kids are invited to join Buzz Lightyear as he sets out to impress Jessie the Cowgirl in the talent show. As Buzz tries his luck at everything from comedy to juggling, emerging readers discover new vocabulary words in the context of a rich, interactive storytelling experience. (MSRP $4.99)

My Thoughts:

This is by far Savannah’s favorite app, next to the PBS television app.  I had recently played Toy Story 2 for her, and she fell in love with Woody and Jessie.  So, when she saw this app, she grabbed the iPad from my hand and sat down on the floor with it.  You should have seen her smile – from ear to ear!  I didn’t even have to show her what to do.  Having played with the other popular Disney apps, she tapped the screen and brought the storybook and its characters to life.  And, when Woody and Jessie came on the screen, she went crazy. Since downloading this app, she can’t go a day without playing with the app.  And, now that I gave her a Jessie doll of her own, she sits down on the floor with her doll and iPad and is content for about an hour, which is great for a 17 month old to be this engaged with one thing.  I think we have another Toy Story fan in the family!

Disney Publishing also recently launched “Disney Princess: A Royal Christmas” this past December, which was picked as a “Great Holiday Book App” by AppAdvice.  All Disney Publishing apps are available from the App Store on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore.
