Ubongo from Thames and Kosmos Was a Huge Hit at My Recent #Tryazon Game Night (Review) #tryazon #ubongo

Disclosure: I was sent a sample from the vendor to help assist in hosting a Tryazon party.  All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Join the sprint to solve the puzzle with Ubongo—a fast-paced, addictive, and easy-to-learn geometric puzzle game!

Are you a board game loving family?  Back in college I started doing fun game night with groups of girls on my dorm floor. We had so much fun, and word would spread about our fun game nights, that game nights grew so big, we had to move to the dorm's common area as more and more people looking for a way to unwind after a long school week would head over to my Saturday night game nights.  Fast forward to today and I am still hosting Saturday game nights once or twice a month, and invite family, friends and neighbors.  Just like back in college, everyone looks forward to game night and seeing what new games I have to share with everyone.

A couple weeks ago I planned game night and told guests to be ready for an addicting puzzle game that will pin us against each other and an hourglass sand timer.  With 9 rounds of game play, players around the table (up to 4 at a time) race to solve the challenging puzzle with 3 or 4 tiles.  Once you play a round of this game, you will be hooked, and want to play again and again.

Each game lasts about 20-25 minutes and has players using 3 (easier) and 4 tiles (much harder) as they roll a dice and use their 12 titles to solve the tile puzzle based on the Ubongo image they rolled on the dice.  The game itself it geared towards players ages 8 and above.  My daughter, Savannah, who is almost 7 was able to play the game and beat out some of the adults as she racked up gem after gem each round. :-)

Like her Mommy, she loves challenging games and solving puzzles, so this game was perfect for her (and I).

I had 8 adults over and 10 children between the ages of 7-14 for our monthly game night, and loved watching everyone try out the game with a few rounds of play before signing up for 4-player tournaments.

As part of my Tryazon Ubongo party I was sent 2 extra games to give away as door prizes.

The two winners of the tournaments took home an Ubongo game for themselves, while runners ups were looking on their phones over at Amazon to buy a copy of this game so that they could practice and be ready for the next Ubongo game night they are looking for me to host soon. :-)

Shh, don't say anything, but I am also practicing solo play with the board game and the Ubongo app, so I can beat the clock and my opponents the next game night we have.

In addition to my recent Ubongo game night, I will also be bringing this puzzle game to our next homeschool co op and introducing the kids group in our ages 8-12 years old groups to this fun game.  I have been talking up this game to the parents in our homeschool co op the past couple weeks, and they can't wait to try the game themselves, as many of them use board games as part of their homeschool curriculum, like I do.

With more than 3.5 million copies sold worldwide, Ubongo is a Parents' Choice Silver Honor Award Winner.

And, when you say "Thames and Kosmos" to a teacher or homeschooling family, you will get a smile from them, as they know their games and kits are A+ in their eyes. :-)

Each Ubongo set can be played both solo and with up to four players

Sprint to Solve the Puzzle

"Ubongo is a fast-paced, addictive, and easy-to-learn geometric puzzle game. Players race against the timer and against each other to solve a puzzle of interlocking shapes. The faster you solve the puzzle, the more gems you get. The player with the most valuable gem treasure after nine rounds of solving puzzles wins!

Here’s how it works: Each player receives a set of 12 tiles. The tiles are polyominos — geometric shapes formed of equal-size squares joined edge to edge in different arrangements. At the start of each round, each player gets a new puzzle board.

A roll of the die determines which tiles you must use to perfectly fill in the empty spaces on the puzzle board. Any players who complete the puzzle within the time limit yell out 'Ubongo!' and grab a gem at random from the bag.

The fastest player also gets a blue gem and the second fastest an amber gem. Each gem color is worth a different amount of points. After nine rounds, the player with the most valuable gem collection wins."

--FREE Lesson Plan for Teachers--

If you are a teacher/homeschool parent, check out the Ubongo lesson plan! This sheet is a mini-curriculum guide showing teachers how Ubongo can be used in the classroom. (Correlates to specific Common Core Standards!) :-)  I have been using Ubongo with my girls and they are loving it.  It is a great game to help with problem solving and visualizing geometric properties.
