It has been awhile since I have been excited about a movie coming to theaters, and which I hope to see while out instead of waiting for it to arrive on DVD. And, one movie that has peaked my interest is "The Identical" starring Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd and Blake Rayne, and will be in theaters on September 5th.
"The IDENTICAL tells the compelling story of twin brothers unknowingly separated at birth during the Great Depression. DREXEL HEMSLEY becomes an iconic 50’s rock ’n’ roll star, while RYAN WADE (Blake Rayne) struggles to balance his love for music and pleasing his father. The Reverend Wade (Ray Liotta) and his wife (Ashley Judd) are sure their adopted son has been gifted and called by God to be a preacher. But Ryan challenges his parent’s vision for his life, and unflinchingly chooses to launch his own music career with his best friend (Seth Green). Encouraged by his wife (Erin Cottrell) and employer (Joe Pantoliano), Ryan embarks on an unpredictable, provocative path - performing the legendary music of Drecel Hemsley in sold out venues all across the country. As the brothers destinies tragically collide, Ryan discovers that Drexel is his identical twin which leads him to question everything he’s ever believed about God, family, and his own identity."
While there really hasn't been much buzz about the move, and even real theatrical trailer airtime (I can't recall seeing a single commercial for it), I was lucky enough to hear about through online forums, where I saw the movie trailer.
So, you can imagine how excited I was when I received an email and asked to review the motion picture soundtrack for this upcoming movie release, and offer a CD to one lucky reader. I jumped at the opportunity and within a few days of opting in, I received a signed copy of the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Sampler of The Identical in the mail. And, since then, I have been listening to it while preparing dinner, working out, or during errands with the girls. The Sampler CD contains 12 songs from the movie, most of which are sung by the Blake Raye, who stars in the film. In addition to Blake Raye, you will also find The Moph Kings, Darcey & Mo and even Christopher Carmichael and Klaus Badelt lending their melodious voices to this soundtrack.
About the Soundtrack:
THE IDENTICAL ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK SAMPLER features 12 of the 20 original songs by Jerry Marcellino and Yochanan Marcellino from the film. Including “Your Love’s Keepin’ Me Tonight,” “City Lights,” “Angel of Mine,” “Everybody Knows It” and “Nashville Tonight."
Prior to receiving this CD sampler or hearing about this upcoming theatrical release, I was not familiar with Blake Rayne. Besides the storyline, I was looking forward to seeing this movie as Ashley Judd is one of my favorite actresses, and whenever she is in a movie like this, her acting is amazing.
Here is the trailer from the movie, to give you sense of what the movie is about...
Looks good, right? If you blinked you may have missed Seth Green who also stars in this movie. It reminded me of a young Elvis, who was the king (and still is) of true rock 'n roll music. Ray Liotta and Ashley Judd are great as Ryan Wade's adoptive parents, trying to raise their son and lead him to what they feel is his caller, a preacher just like his dad. But, like so many other teens, Ryan Wade, played by Blake Raye, has other dreams and aspirations. He wants to pursue music, like his twin brother, Drexel Hemsely, who is an iconic 50's rock 'n roll singer. But, will Ryan's father stand in his way of making his personal dreams a reality. And, what happens when he comes face to face with his brother who is not aware of? Worlds and beliefs collide, making this a must see movie. I cant' wait to see it when arrives in theaters on Sept. 9th. But, in the meantime, I love being able to sample the toe-tapping music from the movie -- and you will, too!
Thanks to the kind folks at Propeller Consulting, LLC, one lucky reader will win this motion picture soundtrack sampler to enjoy. While it will not come signed by Blake Rayne like mine was (sorry, wish it was), you will still find yourself keeping this CD on rotation in your car and home CD player. So, dust off your dance shoes, and get ready to kick your feet up and dance around to 50's rock 'n roll, as you wait for The Identical to hit theaters real soon. :-)
