I Dropped My Kyocera Hydro Vibe Waterproof 4G LTE Smartphone in the Water on Purpose... and It Still Works! :-) #SprintMom #Sponsored #MC

Disclosure:  I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Sprint. I received a product sample to facilitate my review and to thank me for participating.

Before I had kids, I used to love buying the newest tech gadgets, along with my husband.  But, we quickly learned that expensive gadgets, including cell phones are favorite toys among little ones...but, also break easily to when handled by little hands.  As a result, we have been selecting in what devices we buy, as we know sticky, clumsy hands will be getting a hold of them, and there may be a chance they could be dropped.  We have already replaced a cracked tablet screen, and have had to say goodbye to two of our cell phones as they were dropped in the toilet, or dropped on the ground without the protective case on it.

But, thanks to the folks at Sprint for selecting me for the second year in a row to be one of their Sprint Mom Ambassadors, I have been able to try out new phones and gadgets that any parent or tech junkie would go crazy for.  If you Google my blog name, Inspired by Savannah and Sprint, you will see the different cell phones and Sprint products I have had the opportunity to review over the past two years, in case you are looking for a new cell phone, mobile hot spot, etc.  :-)

As part of the Sprint Mom Ambassador program, I was recently sent the new Kyocera Hydro Vibe waterproof 4G LTE smartphone, and am in love.  If you have ever had your cell phone dropped in water accidentally by yourself or yourself, or even got it wet carrying on your body while working out, then you know the disappointment you feel when after a few days of leaving the cell phone submerged in a bowl of dry rice to try and dry it, that it no longer works -- bye bye phone, and bye bye contacts, photos, etc. that you have stored on your phone.  It isn't until you find yourself without a phone due to it breaking that you realized how connected you have become and how much crucial information you store on your phone, thinking it will always be there.

So, when I heard that we would be reviewing the new Kyocera Hydro Vibe waterproof 4G LTE smartphone and how it can be completely submerged in up to one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. without harming the phone, I couldn't wait to try it out.  I know what you are thinking?  What person would actually want to drop their phone in water to see if it still works.  Well, I really wanted to put this phone to the test, and that I did.  From dropping it into the kitchen sink filled with water, to filling my kids' inflatable pool outside with water and dropping and leaving it in for awhile, to even bringing it to the beach and letting it stay submerged until the waves while taking photos, I wanted to make sure that the claim that this phone was waterproof really was true.  And, what did I find out after doing all this?  That is really is!!! Cool, huh?  I sure think so, and know my girls did, too.

Here is the beach I dropped my new phone into on purpose

Here is the phone taking photos underwater, while be left there for 15 minutes.

I then took the phone out of the water, wiped it dry and make a phone call. No problems at all. :-)

I liked how after a recent incident where a non-waterproof phone was dropped in the kitchen sink where a shirt was soaking and broke, that Savannah remembered me telling them to keep phones and electronic devices away from water, as they would break.  She didn't know why I was going against what I told her.  I had to sit her and her sister down and tell them that this was  special phone, made with little ones in mind. :-)  I was afraid that if they saw me dropping a phone into the water that they would think they would be able to do with the cell phones and tablets we have.  Luckily, they are at the age that they understand things, and know the difference between this waterproof phone and the others that aren't.

Would this waterproof phone come in handy for you?  Ever wanted to take photos underwater with a phone and not a clunky waterproof camera (that usually can't stay under water for too long or go too deep)?  Well, with the Hydro Vibe by Kyocera, you can do just that.  And, you will not have to buy an additional and oh so expensive waterproof case for this phone (which never work), which I love, as I hate having to buy add-ons to take advantage of features.  I can't wait to capture my girls' first under water swimming, now that they are learning how to swim.  What great keepsakes that I will have with these photos, that years ago would not be possible with a cell phone.

In addition to the waterproof feature of this phone, which in and of itself it really neat, the Hydro Vibe also has many other great features, some of which you can only find with a Sprint phone, like Sprint Spark.  What is the Sprint Spark network?  This network, only offered through Sprint, enhances phones like the new Kyocera Hydro Vibe waterproof 4G LTE smartphone's LTE service, allowing for high quality video.  And, if you are like me, video quality is one feature I look at when shopping around for phones.  Not only do I use my smartphone for taking photos for my blog, but this is how I capture my girls' firsts and special moments.  I said goodbye to lugging around a camera right after the girls were born, as I would forget to charge it, the picture quality was poor, or I simply didn't want to lug another thing around with the many other things you tote around for little ones.

Here are just a few photos I took during a recent day trip with the girls, to show you how great the picture quality of this smartphone is...

In addition to the great picture and video quality offered with the Hydro Vibe smartphone, I am also loving the following features of this new waterproof smartphone:

  • Fast download speeds, which comes in handy when I am trying to download important files, send photos in emails, or backup up files on my cloud.
  • Offers a 4.5 inch qHD impact-resistant touchscreen display -- I love how slim this phone is, and how easy it to to use the touchscreen keypad to swipe around to the different letters, or send a text message or email without worrying about spelling words wrong due to a poor touchscreen.
  • Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Enhanced User Interface -- Allows you to set up restricted profiles, limiting access to your apps and content, as well as adding a new dimension of awesomeness to the games and movies, with 3D realistic graphics and virtual surround sound, only available through Jelly Bean.
  • The ability to hear clearly in loud environments, including in a room with fussy toddlers.
  • The 2,000mAh battery offers a longer battery life on a single charge, which is a must for me, as I have found myself driving with the girls without a car charger and my other phones would drain fast due to all the apps and background programs I was running.  Not good when you need a phone handy in case of an emergency.
  • 8.0 MP Camera -- This rear camera with LED flash and video camera makes capturing special moments easy and clearly.  I am amazed at the overall crisp clean photos and videos I have captured using this 8 Megapixel camera.

To learn more about this new waterproof smartphone, including purchasing and adding to your current Sprint plan, or switching painlessly to Sprint, visit the Kyocera Hydro Vibe waterproof 4G LTE smartphone site today.  I can't stop raving about this phone to family and friends, and always have people looking at me when we are near water and I get the phone wet.  I have to tell that they I am not crazy and trying to break the phone, and show them that it is waterproof.  Once they know this, they have to see the phone and know the brand, so that they can check it out.  I am so happy to be apart of the Sprint Mom Ambassador program for the second year in a row, as it has allowed me to try out the new Kyocera Hydro Vibe waterproof 4G LTE smartphone firsthand, and be able to rave about it with you.  I know that when you see this phone up close and try out its many features, including the waterproof feature, you will see why I love it so much! :-)  And, with summer upon us and families enjoying time outdoors near the pool, at the beach, etc., this smartphone will sure come in handy to help you capture these memorable summer memories, without having you worry about it being accidentally dunk in the pool, tumbling around in the bottom of a wet beach bag, etc.  You will be amazed at how well this phone handles oops moments, and keeps working.  I sure once after dropping it in water, to try out the waterproof feature, as well as handing off to the girls to play around with. :-)

Stay tuned for more great product reviews in the coming months from me relating to Sprint.  I can't wait to see what they want me to try out next and share with you! :-)

  1. You are so brave to drop your phone in a kitchen sink full of water. I have seen the commercials on television for this phone and now after reading your review I believe it does work.
