Now Available on DVD -- VeggieTales: Veggies in Space -- Review

Disclosure: I was sent a screener copy from the vendor in order to write up an honest review.  All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Synopsis:

"Join Captain Cuke (Larry the Cucumber) and his loyal first officer, Mr. Spork (Bob the Tomato), as they embark on an out of this world adventure to save the galaxy from a menacing space pirate.  The surprising reason behind Luntar the Looter’s power-stealing antics lead the entire Veggie crew to learn a valuable lesson about sharing: if you have enough to spare, you have enough to share!"

My Thoughts:

We ended up watching this new VeggieTales release this past Friday for our family movie night, and what a great movie it was.  While the kids couldn't get enough of their favorite VeggieTales characters, my husband and I liked the spoofing of everyone's favorite Captain Curt and Spock of Star Trek, including Larry being Captain Cuke and Bob playing first officer, Mr. Spork.  I especially liked the name of the space fleet....USS Applepies. :-)

The overall message of this VeggieTales movie was to show the importance of friendship and sharing.  I have shared on numerous occasions how we have been working with the girls on sharing.  If we don't buy duplicates, they fight when they see the other playing with a toy, even if they don't want it.  So, after seeing the trailer of this movie a few weeks ago, I couldn't wait to receive a screener copy to share with the girls.

After we watched the movie, my husband and I took time to talk to the girls about what he had just watched and sharing.  I kept referencing the selfish crew members of the USS Applepies and how they had to learn to share in order to get along.  And, once they learned to share, they were able to have stronger friendships.

In addition to the spoofing of Star Trek, adults will also find fun spoofs on other sci-fi classics like ET, Back to the Future, Apollo 13, Doctor Who and more.  There is even a cute reference to Gravity, which starred Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.  :-)

While my girls are still learning to share, it was great to be able to share this VeggieTales movie with them, and have a talk afterwards about how it is important to share with one another, and not be selfish. We will definitely be watching this movie again, and are so happy to be adding it to our growing VeggieTales DVD collection.  If your family loves VeggieTales movies, you will definitely want to pick up this new release, which is available starting today in stores and through online retailers, including the official VeggieTales online store.  I can't wait to hear what your family thinks of it, including the references to the popular sci-fi classics.
