On March 14th, Lionsgate releases The Single Moms Club, a story of five struggling single Moms who put aside their differences in the midst of a school dilemma with their kids to form a support group.

While I am not a single mom, a few of my good friends are, and I know the struggles they have faced over the years trying to raise their children, while also working to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads.  I am always in awe when I look at them, and see how grounded their children are and how strong a bond they have. After recently seeing a trailer for Tyler Perry's upcoming "The Singles Moms Club," I had to ask my single mom friends if they were about of a support group like the one the women in this movie create.  They all said no, but wished there was one out there, as it would be great to be able to talk with other single moms, especially when times are tough and you feel like things never seem to go your way.  I had to quickly remind my girlfriends that even though I have not walked in their shoes and don't know the difficulties of being a single mom, that I am always there for them.  I had saw a comment the other day on Facebook that I had to like and share about sisterhood and even though we are not blood related that we are still sisters nonetheless.  I don't have any sisters, but I have always had a strong bond with a few close girlfriends I grew up with and have remained close, and they are like the sisters I have never had. :-)

As I watched the trailer to this movie, I couldn't help see the friendship and bond that these lady form when they are forced to put on a school fundraiser, is similar to what my girlfriends and I have.

Whenever times get tough, we are always there for each other -- even if it is a quick phone call, email or text message.  Because I am the last of my friends to have children, I am grateful for all the tips and tricks they have shared about dealing with colic, teething, the terrible two's and three's and potty training.  On those days that I feel like the girls are trying to test me and are wearing me down, my girlfriends are there to remind me that they are only little once, and to enjoy this time.  Yes, children can stress you out, but they also bring out the best of you, just like my girlfriends do in me.  I can hear my girlfriends telling me the same thing Lytia tells Hillary in a scene from "The Single Moms Club":

From the character Lytia on Parenting --
"Just take it one snotty nose and one diaper at a time darlin'"

Lytia (Cocoa Brown, left) and Hillary (Amy Smart, right)
in Tyler Perry's The Single Moms Club

I love how caring and compassionate they are, and how even though they are doing it all -- they still have time for friends. And, when I went through my cancer treatment in 2008, my girlfriends were amazing, as they helped cook meals for us when I couldn't get out of bed, came over with movies and gossip magazines to help keep my mind off of things, and gave me the strength when I needed it to continue to fight cancer head on.  I will forever be grateful to have these special women in my life, and love when movies like this are made, as it gives us an excuse to get together for dinner and movie. :-)  Even though this movie isn't hitting theaters until March 14th, we are already making plans on where to dine beforehand.  And, who knows, maybe we will get in a little shopping therapy before dinner! :-)

The Single Moms Club directed by and starring Tyler Perry as well as Amy Smart, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Cocoa Brown, Zulay Henao and Nia Long, is sure to leave you laughing well after the movie ends. I will be sure to bring tissues to hand out and use when the tears of laughter start flowing.  I have yet to sit through a Tyler Perry movie without tearing up.  He really is an amazing director and actor, and knows how to make movies that you can't help but relate to movie's characters and see you and your friends and family in each of the character. Relatable movies are ones that you truly enjoy, want to watch again, and find yourself talking about with family and friends.  And, this upcoming release sure looks like another winner for Tyler Perry, and one that my girlfriends and I will enjoy!
