This 2-DVD Collector’s Edition of Dale Evans: Beyond the Happy Trails interviews family and friends who celebrate the life of Dale Evans and Roy Rogers and their influence on American culture. Despite being a destitute, divorced, single-mother at age 16, Dale went on to be a role model for millions of young girls. She starred in more than 100 movies and television shows and authored 28 inspirational books, including Angel Unaware, which provoked a generation to love and care for children with special needs. For everyone who grew up in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, Roy and Dale were an every-Saturday attraction on the movie screen or television.

My Thoughts:

Even though the Roy Rogers Show was on before my time, I have had the pleasure of watching reruns with my father over the years.  I can see why Roy Rogers and his wife, Dale Evans were icons of their generation, and had such an adoring fan following.  It wasn’t until I watched this DVD collection with my father that I learned more about this devoted couple and the ups and downs they experienced, through loss of their children, the adoption of children and their charitable work that spanned the globe, especially when it came to those with special needs.  Dale Evans starred in over 100 films and wrote a handful of inspirational books, all while being  a mentor to young women.  Through this DVD set, you see Dale’s unwavering commitment to all the charitable causes both Roy Roger and she stood for and wanted to help in any way they could.

Having had grown up watching Roy Rogers, my father felt nostalgic watching this DVD set with me, and shared childhood memories he has of his family sitting around the television each week watching the Roy Rogers Show.  It is amazing how a show that was popular in the 1930s-50’s, can still resonate with today’s generations.  I wish that shows like this and people like Roy and Dale were still around, as it would make our world a better place.  But, we are lucky enough to have this DVD collection to reflect and cherish the memories many have of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, growing up.

So, if you were/are a big Roy Rogers or Dale Evans fan, or want to introduce your children or grandchildren to shows you watched growing up, why not pick up a copy of this DVD set.  Or, if you are looking for the perfect gift to give a parent or grandparent, this would make for a great gift!

About Roy and Dale:
image

Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were American icons that lived out the joys and tragedies of a 52-year marriage before an adoring public. "They were the same people off the screen, as they were on the screen," is a common refrain from anyone who knew Roy and Dale. Throughout the 1950's, the action packed Roy Rogers Show was part of the regular Saturday morning routine for young children everywhere.

While many remember the 100+ movies and television shows, few know the lasting impact Dale had on the community of parents of children with special needs and
the organizations that fought for the rights of these most vulnerable members of our society. Dale's first of twenty-eight books, Angel Unaware, sold millions of copies and gave a first-hand account of a Down Syndrome child's life from the perspective of Robin Rogers, Roy and Dale's only biological child, who died just shy of her second birthday.

Roy and Dale's life also sparked the adoption of untold thousands of children around the world. With five adopted children of their own, Roy and Dale graciously shared the importance of adoption with anyone who would listen.

While the outcome of Dale's life could have come straight out of every girl's dreams, the reality of her journey included three failed marriages, the death of three of her children at early ages, and the realization that all of the money and fame in the world could not satisfy the needs of the human heart.

Join us for a stroll down memory lane and a celebration of a life well lived.

Disclosure:  I was sent a copy of this DVD in order to write up an honest review.  The views above are mine and mine alone.
