Holiday Gift Guide 2017: Sun Tail Mermaid Monofins Make the Perfect Gift for That Special Mermaid Fan or Water Lover in Your Life - Save 10% Now! #BestGiftEver

Disclosure: I was sent a sample from the vendor in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Last Christmas both of my girls asked Santa for mermaid tail blankets to wear when they were laying on the couch watching television, to keep warm.  And, now this year, they are upping up their request and were asking for a mermaid tail to swim with.  Over the summer we attended an event at a nearby aquarium and they had a mermaid swimming in the fish tanks with the fish. The girls thought this was the coolest thing, and had no idea how she had mermaid monofiin?  It wasn't until the mermaid did a meet and greet with the kids that they were able to see her Sun Tail Mermaid monofin. She showed the kids how she put it on and took it, and described how it felt swimming with a mermaid tail.  From that moment on, the girls had it in their heads to make a point to ask Santa for their very own Sun Tail Mermaid monofin to swim at the nearby indoor swimming pools with.

I surprised the girls last week when I received a sample Sun Tail Mermaid monofin.  As I took the swimmable mermaid tail and flipper out of the box, they were all smiles.  They thought it was the coolest thing, and remembered back to this summer when they met the mermaid at the aquarium and learned about this cool mermaid tail.

More about the Sun Tail Mermaid Monofin:

"Make your little girls dream come true! Sun Tail Mermaid has created the world's best swimmable mermaid tails and mermaid flippers. Their mermaid tails are soft, comfortable, and come in a wide variety of designs and colors. They are made of high quality swimsuit fabric with 4-way stretch.

Sun Tail Mermaid's monofins are extremely comfortable and virtually unbreakable. Their patented monofin is several steps ahead of everyone else in engineering, durability, comfort, and functionality. The propulsion and control is exceptional. The monofins come in a wide range of beautiful colors, so you can match your mermaid tails or look amazing wearing it alone."

My girls had so much fun slipping the mermaid tail and flipper on.  They tried laying on the couch pretending to me a mermaid out of water, sitting on a rock flapping their tails.  It was difficult to stand with the tail.  But, I told them they wouldn't be walking around on it, as it was to be used in the water.

My youngest asked if I could fill the tub so that she could try it out.  Unfortunately we don't have a big tub, to accommodate a mermaid tail. I told them that we would go to a nearby indoor pool to try out. We will be going this upcoming Sunday to try out our new Sun Tail Mermaid monofin.  My girls have been counting down the days.  And, since receiving the monofin in the mail, they haven't gone a day with trying it out and pretending to be a mermaid.

Do you have mermaid loving fan in your life?  Have they ever asked to have a mermaid tail and flippers like just a mermaid has?  Or, maybe they have seen other kids swimming in a local pool or at the beach with these cool mermaid monofins?  Whatever the case, why not consider surprising them with their very own swimmable mermaid monofin.  This is one gift they will not grow tired of.  Just be ready to take them to a nearby indoor swimming facility, or if you live in warmer climates and it is still swim season, be able to head to the beach, to try out this cool mermaid monofin.  They will definitely be the talk of the pool or beach when everyone sees them slip on their very own swimmable mermaid tail and flippers.  It does take some time getting used to swimming with the monofin, but once your child gets a feel for it and practice a bit, they will be just like a mermaid, swimming around like crazy, enjoying the water in a fun new way. :-)

To learn more about the Sun Tail Mermaid monofin line, head on over to __.  If you have a boy in your life who loves sharks, the folks at Sun Tail Mermaid also sell shark fins, which would also make for a great gift idea this holiday season.

Holiday Gift Guide 2017: A Taste of Latin America: Culinary Traditions and Classic Recipes Cookbook is a Must Have for Cookbook Collectors and Those Who Like to Recreating Tasty Latin Dishes -- Review and #Giveaway

Disclosure:  I was sent a review copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

A Taste of Latin America: Culinary Traditions and Classic Recipes from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico & Venezuela

I have been looking for Latin American cookbook, as my husband who is from El Salvador is always asking if I can try cooking dishes that he grew up enjoying.  I have other Latin American cookbooks, but they were not true authentic recipes, and my husband could tell when I tried making something as simple as sopaioillas, a friend pastry filled with mashed pumpkin.  So, for the holidays I wanted to surprise my husband by making some dishes he loved growing up and that you can't find around here unless you are having someone from a Latin American background cooking for you.  I am Italian so I have to rely on cookbooks to recreate dishes for my husband.

A recent search led me to the "A Taste of Latin America: Culinary Traditions and Classic Recipes from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico & Venezuela".  Even though this cookbook doesn't include El Salvador in the mix of countries covered in this cookbook, it does include 10 popular Latin American countries.  My husband has told me in the past that these countries all cook up similar dishes, some just use different or spicy seasoning and ingredients.

Last week I received this cookbook in the mail, and before I could take a look at it, my husband saw it and sat down at the table to look through it.  He was all smiles as he flipped through the pages as there were so many recipes he loved as a kid and hasn't had in a long time.  I gave him sticky notes to tag recipes he would love me to try cooking for him, and by the time I got the cookbook back, it looked like 3/4 of the cookbook pages were flagged.  My husband told me that out of all the Latin American cookbooks I have bought or have been sent to review over the years, that this one is the most authentic.  When I finally did get a chance to look at it, I was excited to find all the ingredients for the recipes could be found at your local market.  In the past when I was trying to make Latin American dishes for my husband we would have to travel a Spanish supermarket to get key ingredients.  But, this isn't the case with this cookbook.

I love Latin American food, and found my mouth watering looking through the pages of this cookbook which is filled with full color photos throughout.  I personally flagged a handful of soups and chicken dishes to try, and can't wait to get in the kitchen and start cooking up Latin American food for my husband to enjoy, and to introduce my girls to this food, and have my husband share stories of his childhood with them, and how his grandmother used to cook these dishes up for him and his siblings.

Like I mentioned above, this cookbook includes 10 Latin American countries.  What I really like about this cookbook is that they break the book down into sections, with each country getting their own section. I have a handful of friends who love doing cultural dinner nights at their house.  They choose a particular country and decide on appetizers, a main course with a couple sides and then a dessert.  In addition to the authentic meal of that particular country they cook up for their family, they research the country further to learn about traditions, music, famous people, etc. and make a fun learning experience out of it. It is like travelling to another country without having to leave your house. :-)  I plan to use this cookbook for some fun Latin American dinner nights in our house, as I introduce the girls to these 10 countries as part of our homeschooling history lessons.

If you are a fan of Latin American food, or like to try other cultural/ethnic recipes, then you will want to check the A Taste of Latin America: Culinary Traditions and Classic Recipes from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico & Venezuela, available now from Amazon for only $13.59. With all the recipes you get, you can't beat the price of this cookbook.  This is definitely one cookbook I will be pulling from the shelf to make a dish on a consistent basis.

More about this book:

"Acclaimed chef Patricia Cartin cooks with Latin America’s history and traditions in every recipe. Ten Latin American countries are represented, including Patricia’s native Costa Rica, with dishes that are savory, sweet, spicy, mild, and everything in between. Tempting options for main dishes, vegetables, sides, and desserts, everyone can get creative in the kitchen with flavorful recipes for every part of a successful meal. Food is the perfect gateway to gaining an understanding of cultures and breaking bread with the people of the world."

Thanks to the publisher one lucky Inspired by Savannah reader will win a copy of this book to enjoy and try their hand at cooking authentic and tasty Latin American dishes at home.

Holiday Gift Guide 2017: Give the Gift of the Most Comfortable Bra Around -- The Coobie Bra - Save 30% Off Your Order + Enter to #WIN a Bra Now! @usfg #shopcoobie #coobieluv #comfort #bra #usfamilyguide

Disclosure:  I was sent a sample from the vendor in exchange for an honest review.  All views shared are mine and mine alone.

I have been a Coobie Bra wearer since 2012, when I was originally sent one of their seamless bras to review.  From the moment I put the bra on, I was sold, and ended up throwing out my old bras, most which never fit well, and replaced them with Coobie bras (which come in a variety of colors and styles).  Have you struggled to find the perfect fitting bra?  Before switching to a Coobie bra, I would spend half my day adjusting or pulling the straps back up to my shoulders after they would continually slide down to my upper arm.  I don't know about you, but this gets really annoying, especially when you are trying to carry things or conversing with people and then feel your bra strap slip and want to fix it.  Once I made the switch to a Coobie Bra I didn't have to deal with strap issues ever again as the bras fit the way they should, and were so comfortable.

Another reason I became a fan of Coobie bras is that back when I was undergoing cancer treatment in 2008 I needed to have a port a cath put in near my  left shoulder.  Once it was out, not only was I left with a 6 inch scar, but I had trouble wearing bras with tight straps, which would seem to sit in the incision area.  Once I received the Coobie Bra and put it on, I was amazed at how comfortable it felt.  For a moment, I didn't feel like I was wearing anything, and there were no wires that were gouging into my ribs or sides of my breasts.  Who would have thought that a one-size fits all bra would fit all body types and breast sizes?  When ordering, you choose between their regular or plus size (Regular - fits 32A to 36D; Full - fits sizes 38A to 42D-DD) bras which is great, as you don't have to guess your correct bra size.  I can't tell you how many times I spent top dollar on bras, only to find that I had purchased the wrong size (sometimes even after being fitted), or didn't like how it felt with the wires or foam inserts.

Last week I was sent a One size Scoopneck Coobie Seemless Bra to try out.  Usually I wear their comfort bra or their classic lace bralette, so I was excited to try out the scoopneck.

And, seeing that this particular bra comes in "one size" I didn't have to worry about which size would fit better for me, as their one size bras fit size 32A-36D.  This is great if you lose or gain a little weight as the bra will grow or shrink with you. :-)

The scoopneck seamless bra I was sent to review retails for only $20.00 This is a steal for the quality and comfort of this unique bra, which can also be worn in place of a camisole or tank.  And, if you don't like foam inserts, you can remove them.  But, I have to say they don't make a big difference in how you chest size looks, as they are not bulky.  Because I have to worry about the straps resting near my port scar area,  I was happy to see that the straps on this seamless bra were stretchable and fully adjustable.

All the Coobie bra available at are super soft, thanks to the stretch nylon material each bra is made out of.  And, with no closure tabs, you don't have to worry about the metal clasp getting caught on your clothing or damaged during the wash/dry cycle when you launder it.

My experience with the Coobie bra far exceeded my expectations, and I am so glad I gave this new scoopneck bra a chance, as I absolutely love it.  I have since bought three additional Coobie bras in black, white and ivory, so that I can wear with my wardrobe.  So, if you are looking for the perfect fitting bra because your current ones are not living up to your expectations, why not give the Coobie bra a try?  You will not be disappointed.

Holiday Gift Guide 2017: Cookbook Lovers Will Love The New Taste of Home Most Requested Recipes and 365 Days of Cookies Cookbooks Recently Released...Just in Time for the Holidays and Gift Giving! - Review and #Giveaway

Disclosure:  I was sent review copies from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Trusted Media Brands, Inc. Taste of Home

I can thank my Nana for introducing me to the kitchen and getting me excited about cooking and baking.  She was Italian and food was a front and center whenever we visited her.  "Mangia, Mangia" she would tell us, which means, eat eat.  And, if she didn't eat, she would get upset as she put her heart and soul into everything that she made and she wanted everyone to leave with happy, full bellies.  When I was old enough to cook with the stove and oven, she began sharing family recipes that were passed down to her from her mother and grandmother.  She also introduced me to Julia Child, who she loved watching on PBS.  If we were visiting when Julia was on, we had to stay quiet as she would watch her cooking show religiously with pen and paper in hand, jotting down recipes to try out in her own kitchen and to take some ideas to incorporate into dishes she liked to make.

Before my Nana was moved into a nursing home, she gave me a handful of her favorite cookbooks, including one of her Julia Child's cookbook.  I was intrigued by this cookbook as it was all about trying out a new recipe every day for an entire year.  I remember my Nana telling me how she would have loved to have tried cooking something new everyday.  But, because she lived alone, there wasn't a need to go all out cooking/baking like that.

It wasn't until I saw the movie based on Julia Child's life that I was reminded about the 365 days of new recipes challenge and wanted to try it out. And, last year I pulled together all my cookouts and lined up mail delivery meal services we get so that I could cook a different meal every day for a year.  I am happy to say that I accomplished this, and thought about my Nana every step of the way.  I took ideas from dishes she used to make and added them to the different recipes I was trying out, so that it would feel like she was will be and we were completing this food challenge together. :-)

In addition to Taste of Home magazines that I get on a monthly basis, I also pulled out over a dozen Taste of Home cookbooks I had in my cookbook closet and flagged recipes I thought my family, including my two picky eaters, would eat.  Everyone had fun trying out my nightly dinners, and my husband couldn't believe the dishes I was turning out.  Back when we were in college and early on in our married life I relied on the crock pot and a handful of recipes I would rotate.  So, he was used to the same recipes each week. He said I came a long way from chicken chicken cacciatore and chicken Marsala. :-)  And, he was right, thanks in part to the Taste of Home cookbooks, magazine and cooking programs I attended over the years.

So, while preparing for my holiday gift guide this year, I wanted to make a point to include a couple Taste of Home cookbooks in my gift guide, as I have had readers tell me over the years how much they love to cook and bake, too.  I thought that by sharing some of my favorite cookbooks and brands that you may find a new cookbook or two to pick up and browse through to find wonderful new recipes to make and share with your family and friends this holiday season.

I wanted to share two Taste of Home books I was recently sent to review, and have been having so much fun trying out recipes from both.  One is a meals cookbook which includes some amazing good 'ole home cooking recipes like lasagnas, one pot recipes and dishes perfect for Sunday dinner.  The other cookbook was all about baking and cookies -- which is perfect for this time of year, as many families love rolling up their sleeves and heading into the kitchen together to bake cookies for school and church functions, to serve up to family and friends visiting, or just make some fun and delicious tasting festive cookies.

Here is more about these two cookbooks from Taste of Home that would make a great gift idea for cookbook lovers this holiday season.

I had the opportunity to check out the two Reader's Digest Mind Stretchers volumes and really enjoyed them. Holiday Gift Guide 2017: Whisky Lovers Will Love the New Apple and Vanilla Whiskies from Crown Royal When Preparing Drinks This Holiday Season -- Review with Drink Recipes

Disclosure: I was sent samples from the vendor in exchange for an honest review.  All views shared are mine and mine alone.

SALTED CARAMEL EGG NOG -- This is just one of the many tasty whisky drinks you can mix up with Crown Royal Whiskies

Instead of my usual hot chocolate I make for myself every evening, tonight I switched it up and tried a recipe I found on the Crown Royal website using their flavor series, Vanilla whisky.  It was bitterly cold out tonight and I was looking for a way to take the edge of and relax after a busy day with the girls...and a Vanilla Hot Toddy sounded like the way to go.  Are you a fan of Hot Toddies?  I was first introduced to this whisky drink from my Nana years ago.  Every year for the holidays, she would ask for books, puzzle, mice ornaments to add to her collection, and a bottle or two of flavored Crown Royal whisky.  I had no idea why she was into whisky, as I thought this was a man's drink.  But, then she whipped up her own version of a hot toddy using this whisky and gave me some to try.  It was so delicious.  You would never think you were drinking whisky.  From then on, I would indulge my Nana and get her an extra bottle so that she had enough for herself and some to make her famous hot toddies at the holidays and when family and friends came to visit.  While my Nana is no longer here, I keep her memory alive by enjoying a nice glass of Crown Royal whisky here and there, and when the holidays roll around, I try to recreate her famous hot toddy to enjoy as I enjoy the crackling fireplace and Christmas tree all lit up.  My Nana, like with her baking recipes, never wrote down how she made things.  And, when you asked her for a recipe, she would say a little bit of this and a little bit of that, but never exact measurements, making it nearly impossible to recreate her recipes.  I so wish I was able to have a collection of her family recipes to enjoy and pass down to my girls.  But, instead I have many fond memories, including sipping hot toddy with her at Christmas time.

Last week I was sent two whisky samples from the Crown Royal flavor series.  I was sent their Regal Apple and Vanilla whiskies to try out.  I first tried out the whiskies straight out of the bottom to get the full flavor profile of the these fine whiskies.  Then, I visited the Crown Royal website to look for recipes to use their whiskies in for a nice night cap drink.  There were so many great, and easy to prepare drinks, it was hard to choose a couple to try using each whisky flavor.

I was excited when I saw a Vanilla Hot Toddy recipe, as it sounded delicious, and would have been something I know my Nana would have loved to sample with me.  I was waiting for a chilly night like tonight to make this drink, and couldn't wait to sit back after the girls were in bed sleeping to enjoy this drink with my husband.

Here is the recipe in case you want to give it a try.  Like I said, it was easy to mix up, and tastes amazing...

1.5 oz. Crown Royal Vanilla Flavored® Whisky
1 tsp fine grain sugar
2 small cloves
1.5 oz. boiling water

    Glass: Coffee Mug
    1. Add Crown Royal Vanilla, fine grain sugar, and cloves in old-fashioned glass or mug
    2. Add 1-2 oz (or more, if desired) boiling water and stir

With Christmas right around the corner, and then New Years, this delicious tasting vanilla hot toddy using Crown Royal Vanilla whisky would surely delight family and friends stopping by to visit.

If hot toddies aren't your thing, but you love vanilla flavored whisky and want to try a new drink recipe how about giving Apple Pie A La Mode a try.

.75 oz. Crown Royal Vanilla Flavored Whisky
.75 oz. Crown Royal Regal Apple Flavored Whisky

    Serve in a shot glass.

This recipe is also found over at the Crown Royal website and is easy to mix up.  I made this drink the other day to serve up at dessert after Thanksgiving and everyone loved it.  Even those who are not usually whisky drinkers said it tasted great.  They could really taste the vanilla flavor, and when mixed with the Regal Apple flavored Whisky,  really reminded them of a freshly baked pie. Yum!

Last night when I was pulling the recipe off the Crown Royal website for the Vanilla hot toddy, I saw a recipe for a caramel apple drink using the regal Apple and Crown Royal's other popular flavored whisky, salted caramel.  I will definitely have to pick up a bottle of the salted caramel whisky so that I can try out this drink. It would be the perfect drink to serve up for caramel apple lovers this holiday season, who are looking try a new mixed drink or venture and try something new like a flavored whisky.

1 oz Crown Royal Salted Caramel
0.75 oz Crown Royal Regal Apple
0.5 oz lemon juice
4 oz ginger ale
Garnish with fresh apple slices

Pour ingredients over ice and stir.
Garnish with fresh apple slices (optional)

And, here is one more drink, which I tried when I first got the Crown Royal whisky samples last week -- Crownberry Apple.  This drink combines both the Crown Royal Regal Apple whisky, along with cranberry juice, for a wonderful flavored whisky drink.

1.5 oz. Crown Royal Regal Apple Flavored Whisky
4 oz. cranberry juice

    Glass: Rocks Glass
    1. Add Crown Royal Regal Apple Flavored Whisky to an ice-filled rocks glass
    2. Top with cranberry juice and stir
    3. Garnish with an apple wedge

Don't these drinks look good?  The one I have made so far taste great and really add a new dimension to just the basic flavored whisky.  I can't wait to try some of the other recipes I printed from the Crown Royal website, and will be picking up a few bottles of Crown Royal to have on hand for the holidays, and to gift to family and friends who were here for Thanksgiving and couldn't get over the amazing flavor of the Vanilla and Regal Apple whiskies I shared with them.
