HALF-HOUR FILM ADAPTATION
OF BELOVED CHILDREN’S BOOK
HIGHWAY RAT” AVAILABLE ON DVD

One of my girls' favorite bedtime books when they were little was "The Highway Rat" by Julia Donaldson.  They were first turned onto this book and author in preschool, when they sat and heard their teacher read The Gruffalo to them, and then followed up by showing them the movie that was made based on the book.  After that, they wanted The Gruffalo and all other books by the author, thus asking for The Highway Rat, when they found at the nearby bookstore.

So, when the girls recently stumbled upon "The Highway Rat" short movie on Amazon, they asked for me to rent or buy it, so that they could watch it.  Before I had a chance to buy it, I was contacted to see if I wanted to review it.  Knowing that my girls already wanted to see it, I jumped at the opportunity.  The other day, I received "The Highway Rat" to review, thanks to the folks at Public Media Distribution, LLC.  This new DVD release contains the 25 minute short film based on the book, as well as the following special features:
  • Behind the Scenes Documentary
  • Artwork Gallery
  • Live Performance with Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler

My girls were so excited when they saw the DVD, and couldn't wait to watch it.  We sat to watch this cute animated movie, and I have to say, I found myself enjoying it, too.  It reminded me of The Gruffalo and Room on the the Broom short films, through its stunning animation and story telling.  My girls also loved it, and couldn't wait to watch it again. Even though we have only had this DVD for a short time, my girls have already watched it over a dozen times.  And, tomorrow they plan to watch it again in the car, on the way to a homeschool class.

If you and your kids love movies and books like The Gruffalo, Stick Man, etc., then you will want to pick up "Highway Rat," available now on DVD.
