(Also available in Kindle and hardcover formats)

It's funny how our kids all have different likes and dislikes, as well as personalities.  While reading came easy to my oldest daughter, my youngest daughter showed no desire to learn how to read until a couple years ago.  I knew not to push her into reading as I didn't want to hate the thought of reading, and knew in her own time she would grasp it, and be off and running.  And, that is, just like her older sister, who has be reminded to put down the book when she comes to the dinner table for a meal.  Even though my youngest is reading now, it is still hard to find books that will get her excited and sit like her older sister does, reading a book cover to cover, or at least for a half hour/hour at a time. She is into history and biography books, as well as graphic novels.  The more pictures in a chapter book the better.  :-)  So, when I was recently sent a copy of "Didi Dodo Future Spy: Recipe for Disaster" to review from the folks at Abrams, I knew who to pass this book off to first to read.  After flipping through the pages, I saw that this new chapter book series includes lots of black and white illustrations and big font, making it great for those reluctant readers.  And, as soon as my daughter saw the book and starting flipping the pages, she was eager to sit down and read it.  I briefly told her about the story, from the press release that was included with the book, so she had an idea what was in store.  And, from there, she was off to her room, to her little reading nook, to enjoy this book.

I didn't expect her to sit and read the whole thing, but once she started reading, she couldn't put the book down.  She really liked the Didi Dodo character and loved how the story line revolved around cooking/baking, which she loves.  When she was done reading the book, she ran downstairs to tell me all about it, and shared show the book also included Koko Dodo's Secret Fudge Sauce, which can be spread on cookies or a taco. She said she wanted to try the recipe and see how it tasted. :-)

Just listening to my daughter talk about this book, and share her favorite parts, I knew I had found a book series for her.  And, I shared with her that there would be additional books, which I would keep my eye out for and pick up to share with her. The best part of these additional releases is that they will be just like this series opener.  They will also focus on food-related mysteries.  My daughter's eyes twinkled when I told her this, and she said she couldn't wait to read more, and collect the whole series.

My youngest was nice enough to pass this book off to my oldest daughter, who also read it in one sitting.  She, too, enjoyed the book, and loved all the illustrations.  Like her sister, she is into mystery books, and this one was made more fun as it centered around food and a stolen secret fudge sauce recipe.

If you are looking for a chapter book to share with your child (maybe they are a reluctant reader like my youngest), then you will definitely want to check out this first book, in hopefully a long series from Abrams Books.  Dido Dodo Future Spy: Recipe for Disaster! arrives on book shelves on March 19th, and is perfect for children ages 6-9.   And, be sure to pre-order this second book in the series, which arrives in store on Sept. 10, 2019...

Didi Dodo, Future Spy: Robo-Dodo Rumble (Didi Dodo, Future Spy #2)

More about this book:

"In this series opener, Koko Dodo the cookie chef has a big problem. Today is the day of the royal cookie contest, and someone has stolen his top-secret fudge sauce! Luckily, a spy enters the scene just in time (or rather, crashes in on her roller skates): Didi Dodo! This might be Didi’s first case ever, but she has a daring plan to help Koko. Koko would prefer a safe, simple, sure-to-work plan, but without another option, he and the amateur sleuth take off on a wacky caper full of high-speed chases and big belly laughs that could only come from the mind of the inimitable Tom Angleberger. Each book in the series will focus on a food-related mystery."
