What do you do when it is a cold, raining day out?...You bake off course!  Well, that is what my girls and I did all day today, while enjoying a day home, after a very busy week.  I was recently sent "The Unicorn Cookbook" from the kind folks at IPG Publishers to review, and spent the previous weekend marking up recipes we wanted to try, and making a shopping list of ingredients to pick up, so that we could spend the afternoon baking and enjoying time in the kitchen together.

As the name of this book suggests, the recipes in this March 2018 release are magical and filled with sprinkles, sparkles and rainbows, as you would expect from a Unicorn. :-)  Thanks to JoJo Siwa, my girls are all about unicorns and sparkly stuff.  The more sparkle and glitter, the better.  So, when I saw this fun cookbook on the IPG website last month, I knew it would be perfect for my girls, who love to cook and bake.

The book opens with giving an introduction to unicorns and then having you find what your unicorn name is.  My girls couldn't help but giggle as we found our names. The names are based on the first letter of your name and then your birthday.  So, my oldest daughter was: Sassy Summer Shimmer, my youngest was: Stardust Twilight Shine, and I was: Rainbow Twilight Shine.  Following the introduction and Unicorn name, this cookbook shares conversions and measurements, as well as kitchen essentials, making this a great cookbook to share with budding cooks/bakers.  After this, the real fun begins, as this cookbook starts off with cupcakes recipes, followed by so many other amazing recipes.  Each and every recipe has a full-color picture so you know what to expect when it is done baking, and it also temps your taste buds and makes your mouth water, as you flip through this cookbook trying to find a recipe to whip up.

In addition to the cupcakes section, you will also find that this cookbook includes the following sections:

  • Cookies and Biscuits
  • Celebration Cakes
  • Drinks
  • Bars and Bites
  • Party Food
  • Breakfast
  • Desserts
By the time we were done flagging recipes we wanted to try last weekend, almost the whole cookbook was marked up. Each and every recipe looks amazing, and looked fun to make.  We ended up making one cupcake recipe today, as well as breakfast recipe and drink to wash it all down.  I wish I had snapped photos of the kitchen fun with my girls today, but as soon as we got in the kitchen, I forgot to grab my phone, and then when I realized I hadn't taken any photos, all the tasty treats were gone.

But, we plan to bake up more recipes from The Unicorn Cookbook in the coming weeks, so I will be sure to snap photos and share on my social media channels, so be on the lookout for them.  Planned for next weekend are Unicorn Cookie Dough Bites, Hug Me Cookie Cups, and Dreamy Hot Chocolate.  My mouth is watering just thinking about these sweet treats and drink.

If your child is all about unicorns, or sprinkles and rainbows, and they love to bake in the kitchen with you, then you will definitely want to check out The Unicorn Cookbook today.
