This past Christmas Santa brought my girls some tinkering and art kits, along with a handful of books to help guide them in creative amazing and fun things.  One book that stood out to my girls and became a favorite of theirs was "Curious Jane".  This book was chock full of projects (all with step by step instruction) that were compiled from the Curious Jane magazine, which I was not aware of.

My girls were drawn to the full color illustrations, and the wide array of DIY projects and ideas for budding designers and inventors.  It was written for girls in mind and is perfect if you are looking to spark an interest in science, design or engineering with your child.  Geared towards children ages 6-11, this book is perfect for girls who love hands-on learning and tinker.  Both of my girls learn best with hands on learning and experimenting and I found them getting excited about each and every activity that filled the pages of the Curious Jane book Santa had brought them.  Within a couple weeks of receiving, they had completed each and every activity that filled the pages of this 128 paperback book, and were asking for more. I was happy to learn that there was going to be another release in the Curious Jane series in Jan. 2019, and made a point to reach out to the folks at Sterling Publishing to see about reviewing and featuring "More Curious Jane" when it was released.

A couple weeks ago, the new "More Curious Jane" arrived at our door, and both of my girls were over the moon excited.

About the book:

They sat together on the couch flipping through the pages of this book, and putting sticky notes on the different crafts and DIY projects that filled the pages of this 128 page paperback book.  The first day we had this new release, the girls had alread completed a handful of projects including shake your own ice cream, super sticky slimy putty, moon sand and launch pad.

What I love about this hands-on activity book for girls is that they list the difficulty level for each activity.  Many of them are easy, which means that girls can handle on their own with little parental help.  And, many of the activities and projects called for supplies we had in the pantry or laying around the house.  Just this evening the girls put to use a few of their old pairs of tights that no longer fit them. Thanks to the new More Curious Jane book, the girls said they could turn these old tights into cute twisty pretzel pillows. All they needed was some polyfil and a needle and thread.  I loved watching the girls sit together and chit chat as they sewed and made these cute twisty pretzel pillows that are now up on their beds.  It really is nice to see books like this spark a child's imagination and get them off the phone or away from the television and want to do fun DIY projects and crafts.

I highly recommend both the Curious Jane book (released in 2017) and the new More Curious Jane (released Jan. 22, 2019).  Even though we still have more projects to complete from this new release, my girls are already asking if more books will be released later this year, as they really want to grow their Curious Jane collection.  :-)
