"First Man," Starrring Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy, Now Available on Digital, and Coming Soon to 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on 1/22 (Review) #FirstMan

Disclosure: I was provided with a screener from the vendor in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

The other night my husband and I found ourselves wide awake after the girls decided they would wake a few times in the night.  We turned on the television and started to look for a show or movie on streaming to watch, but couldn't find anything.  Then, I remembered I was recently sent the new "First Man" release, which is available now on Digital as of 1/8, and will be available on Blu-Ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD on Jan. 22nd.  The movie has a run time of 2 hours and 20 minutes, and it goes by fast as there is so much action and drama that you can't stop watching.

Usually we save movies like this until the weekend, but after finding ourselves both wide awake, I thought this would be fun to watch.  And, come one, who will say "No" to watching a movie with Ryan Gosling in it? :-)  There have been so many space movies releases about the infamous Apollo 11 flight, but none like this one.  What sets this movie apart from the others is that it shares the personal side of Neil Armstrong including the ten years prior to the mission to the moon, and all the training and hardships he, his family and his colleagues went through, to get that this moment we all know him for.

The Apollo 11 mission was truly a dangerous one, and this movie does an amazing job at showcasing this, through an intimate account, told by Armstrong's perspective.  Like I said, my husband and I couldn't stop watching the movie -- even though we would pay it for the next day as it ended at 3AM and we had to be up at 6AM.  But, as the credits rolled, we both looked at each other and said, "That was a great movie!"  And, then like the girls usually do, we talked about when we would watch it again. :-)  But, before we would watch it again with the girls, we knew we had to check out the bonus features which include the following:

4K UHD, BLU-RAYDVD & DIGITAL BONUS FEATURES:
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Shooting for the Moon – Take an intimate look at the production of FIRST MAN and the collaborative relationship between Director Damien Chazelle and Ryan Gosling.
  • Preparing to Launch – It’s difficult to believe that FIRST MAN is the first major feature film to tell the journey to Apollo 11. Hear from Director Damien Chazelle and his cast why now is the time to tell the story of this historic event.
  • Giant Leap in One Small Step – A heroic character study, FIRST MAN sheds light on all the hard working individuals that got us to the moon and back.
  • Mission Gone Wrong – Watch as Ryan Gosling reenacts a test piloting sequence gone terribly wrong. Go behind the scenes to see how he trained to nail the landing, performing the majority of his own stunts.
  • Putting You In the Seat – Through the use of innovative technology, most of FIRST MAN was shot in-camera. Take an in-depth look behind the lens of this epic film.
  • Recreating the Moon Landing – Filmed in IMAX to show the vastness of the moon, find out all that it took to recreate the most famous moment in NASA history.
  • Shooting at NASA – Hear from Ryan Gosling and Director Damien Chazelle on how shooting at NASA brought unparalleled authenticity to FIRST MAN.
  • Astronaut Training – Go behind the scenes of the three day boot camp each of the actors underwent prior to filming FIRST MAN.
  • Feature Commentary with Director Damien Chazelle, Screenwriter Josh Singer and Editor Tom Cross

Just the bonus features alone make this a great movie to pick up and enjoy with your family.  I, for one, love learning about NASA and the different space missions, and this movie really does give you a new perspective on the lives of the astronauts and what they have to endure just to train for a mission.  If you are looking for an entertaining movie to watch with your family (note this movie is PG-13), and you missed First Man when it was in theaters last year, then you will want to pick up a copy of this movie when it arrives on Blu-Ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD on Jan. 22nd.  Can't wait that long?  Not to worry as it is now available for purchase on Digital to enjoy. :-)  This is going to be one of those movies you can't stop talking about, and will want to watch time and again.
