Vince Gill Releases Double-Vinyl The Christmas Collection Exclusively for Cracker Barrel (Review)

Disclosure:  I was sent a sample from the vendor in exchange for an honest review.  All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Call me old-fashioned...but, I love listening to music on records.  Growing up, my parents had a record player in the living room and would also put on music like The Carpenters, The Bee Gee's, The Beatles, and Carole King.  I used to love the holidays as this was when we used the record player more often.  Usually when trimming the tree, my mom would pull out her favorite holiday albums who would listen and sing along to.  There was something about listening to the vinyls that was relaxing. Remember when the needle would get to the end of the vinyl and then the handle would kick back.  Or, what about it skipping?  We dreaded this as this meant the record was scratched and we couldn't hear our favorite songs again.  But, I think the best part was placing down the needle on a part of the record and being surprised at what was going to play, as there is no track selection when listening to a record.  Ahh, the good 'ole days.

Nowadays we have Alexa playing our music, or fill our cars with CD's, or have satellite radio in our cars to listen to.  While I use all this stuff, it is still nice to come home after a long day and put on a good vinyl to listen and unwind to.  What I love about my house is that it was built back in the 80's and they put in a music system complete with speakers (think the big ones you used to have on the floor near your record player) built into the walls in each room, and a central location in our upstairs with a stereo system complete with record player and tape deck.  There were no CD's at the time, so this is what they used to listen to music.  We bought the house from the original owners and they never removed this as they liked old school music.  And, I loved this when I saw the house.  We left this in place when we bought the house, and continue to use the stereo system.  I love when the holidays roll around as I play my favorite holiday albums and have it playing in each room.  So, no matter where you walk in the house you hear the music. When my husband first heard this years ago, he said it reminded him of going into malls and stores and hearing music everywhere.  :-)

Well, it is the holidays, and my record player has been going most days. I love to listen to my vinyls wrapping gifts, doing laundry, or just relaxing on the couch with the girls.  And, last weekend when we put the Christmas tree up, I had holiday music playing as we decorated the tree.  We had so much fun stopping to sing and dance along to our favorite holiday songs -- these moments really do make the best memories.

Then, two days ago, I got "happy" mail.  Why was it happy?  Because I received a new vinyl in the mail to listen to.  I am loving how record companies like  MCA Nashville, a Universal Music Company are releasing new music on vinyls for all of us vinyl lovers and collectors to pick up and enjoy.  I received the new Vince Gill Double-Vinyl The Christmas Collection available exclusively at Cracker Barrel.  Here is more about this new holiday release...

"Vince Gill: The Christmas Collection has been released as a limited-edition, double-vinyl set available exclusively at Cracker Barrel stores nationwide. The MCA Nashville double LP includes 1993’s platinum, #1 Billboard Holiday Album, Let There Be Peace on Earth on green vinyl and 1998’s Breath of Heaven, recorded with the Patrick Williams Orchestra, on red vinyl. The collection includes such classics as “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “The Christmas Song,” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” The 21-time Grammy award-winning artist also lends his voice to Elvis Presley’s 1957 hit, “Blue Christmas.”

Also included in the package are Gill’s classic versions of “O Holy Night,” “Let There Be Peace On Earth,” featuring a then 11-year-old daughter Jenny Gill, and “Breath of Heaven,” a song co-written by Gill’s wife and star of the Contemporary Christian genre, Amy Grant.
Gill and Grant are set for a 12-night engagement as part of their much-beloved Christmas at the Ryman performances, beginning on November 28 and ending December 23. These historically sold-out concerts at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium have become a Music City tradition."

When I saw the track list, I couldn't help but smile as it was all the music I love to sing along to with my family.  I am a fan of Elvis Presley and love how Vince Gill took on this popular holiday song from the King, and included it on this Christmas collection album.

There are Christmas songs the whole family will love singing along to, as well as classic ones the older generations will enjoy listening to as they sit by the fire  admiring the newly decorated Christmas tree while sipping on a holiday drink.  Even though I have only had this double-vinyl holiday collection for a short time, it has been getting a lot of play time.  If I don't put it on, the girls are raising upstairs to place the needle on the vinyl and have holiday music playing throughout the house.  Thanks to this album Vince Gill has two new fans of his music and singing. :-)

I can't wait for family and friends to come and visit this holiday season, as they will get to enjoy the new Vince Gill: The Christmas Collection, which is available now exclusively at Cracker Barrel.  If you love Vince Gill or know someone who does, and they still listen to vinyl records, then this is one album you'll want to pick up, as it will be one you will enjoy for years to come.
