If you are looking for a fun new bedtime book to read to your child, you have to check out "Polar Bear Island" by Lindsay Bonilla.  This picture book is not just a cute story that will entertain young children, but also carries an important message of the need to include others and not discriminate.

It is hard to find a good children's book that teaches about the importance of inclusivity, but I have to say that this book does a great job at gently sharing this importance message.  Come on, what kid doesn't love polar bears or animals in general?  When they settle in to read to this cute book, kids will love playful illustrations done by Cinta Villalobos.  The illustrations are cartoon-like and help bring the story to life.

As I read this book to my girls for the first time, they kept saying, "I hope Parker changes his ways and lets Kirby stay."  Like the other polar bears in Polar Bear Island, my girls found themselves with a soft spot in their heart for Kirby and her family.  They truly hope Parker changes his way and can see that by welcoming other animals -- not just polar bears -- will mke the island a better place to live, and one that all the animals will be proud to call home.

We have been reading this book every night at bedtime since receiving last week, and the girls haven't grown tired of it yet.  They are the ones that ask me to read it to them, and I don't mind as I really like this book, too!  It is the perfect book to wind down a busy day, and enjoy quality time with your little ones, as they nestle in to sleep for the night.
   About this Book:

"“Welcome to Polar Bear Island. NO OTHERS ALLOWED!”

Parker is the mayor of this peaceful, predictable island, and he wants to keep it just the way it is. When Kirby, a penguin, arrives to shake things up and wants to stay, Parker says no – but the other polar bears love Kirby! Soon they’re begging Parker to let Kirby (and her family) move in. Will Parker agree . . . and make the island fun for EVERYONE? With its gentle message of inclusivity and cute cold-weather characters, POLAR BEAR ISLAND by Lindsay Bonilla is a delight!"
