My Thoughts:

My girls grew up watching Olivia on television, and still enjoy sitting to watch the Olivia show or reading one of their many Olivia books.  And, they were all smiles when I showed them this recent "Olivia: What Will Olivia Make?" from Simon & Schuster.  In this cute book, which is for early readers, Olivia and her little brother, Ian, along with their father's help make a cake for the whole family to enjoy.  While there are messes made during the process, it was fun making the cake, and everyone in the end got to enjoy the cake, which was the best part!

Both of my girls love "Secrets of American History" series from Simon & Schuster, as they learn all about history in a fun way  In this new book, kids will learn all about historical monuments and structures  including Mount Rushmore, the Chrysler Building, the Empire State Building and the Golden Gate Bridge,   They learned about how these historical places were made, and how they played a role in our nation's history, including spy missions and more.

About this Book:

"Watch out, ’cause here they come! Alvin learns a lesson about responsibility in this Level 2 Ready-to-Read based on a popular episode of Bagdasarian Productions’ hit TV show, Alvinnn!!! and the Chipmunks, airing on Nickelodeon.

When Dave comes down with a bad cold, Alvin quickly offers to take over “dad duty.”

He’s going to be “the fun dad!” Cooking meals is easy—popcorn and apple pie for breakfast—but he quickly learns that parenting is a lot harder than he ever imagined. "

My Thoughts:

My youngest daughter is a huge fan of  the hit animated series, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and loves when Simon & Schuster releases books based on the episodes from show.  So, when Bella saw "The Fun Dad" arrive at our day the other day, she couldn't wait to sit on the couch and read it.  Because this is a level 2 Ready to Read book, she was able to read it own her own without any help from me.  Both of my girls learned to read with the help of these "Ready to Read" books as they really helped them build confidence reading, and were excited when they read a book and didn't need to stop to ask me what a word was.

Even if you missed this episode from the hit Alvin and the Chipmunks series, fans of the show will still love reading this book. Both of my girls loved this book, and kept laughing as they read all about Alvin trying to step up and be Mr. Mom while Dave was sick.  Alvin wanted to be the "fun" dad, but he soon learns that being a parent is not an easy job.  And, everyone wishes for Dave to get better and assume his role as Dad, fun or not.

And, I wanted to make sure I mentioned two board books which also released recently and are perfect for young readers who like to learn while enjoying a good book...

About this Book:

"Learn all about scientists who changed history in this engaging and colorful board book perfect for inventors-in-training!

Asking why.
Then making a guess.
Asking how.
Then proving with tests.

Little scientists make great big discoveries.

In this follow up to This Little President, This Little Explorer, and This Little Trailblazer now even the youngest readers can learn all about great and empowering scientists in history!

Highlighting ten memorable scientists who paved the way, parents and little ones alike will love this discovery primer full of fun, age-appropriate facts and bold illustrations."

My Thoughts:

My youngest daughter is all about history and learning about history figures, especially women who have made advancements in science like Marie Curie and Jane Goodall.  So, when I heard that the folks at Simon & Schuster were coming out with this board book, I had to get my hands on a copy to share with her.   Even though this is a board book, it does have advance wording that beginner readers may struggle with.  But, you will find that this book is better enjoyed when you sit down together with your child and read together.

Both my daughter and I learned a lot about the different advacements and discoveries both male and female scientists have been making over the years, and my daughter was all smiles when we got to the end of the book and there was a ? mark in a bubble, in the "What would you like to discover someday?" section, leading her to see that she can do anything she puts her mind to, including being a great scientist like the likes of Patricia Bath, Annie Easley, Cynthia Breazeal, and Rachel Carson to name a few famous women scientists.  I highly recommend this book for family's to read together, especially those with young girls, to remind them that they can do anything including having a successful career as a scientist.

About this Book:

"Learn all about the traditions of Diwali with this third book in the delightful board book series Celebrate the World, which highlights special occasions and holidays across the globe.

Each autumn we gather with our friends and family and light our brightest lanterns. It’s time for Diwali, the festival of lights! In this lovely board book with illustrations from Archana Sreenivasan, readers learn that the five days of Diwali are a time to pray for a bountiful season, celebrate the special bonds between siblings, and rejoice in the victory of light over darkness and good over evil."

My Thoughts:

This is the third book in the "Celebrate the World" series and by far my girls' favorite.  They loved the colorful illustrations that filled the pages of this board book that explains Diwali, the festival of lights.  The colorful illustrations really brought the story about this five day celebration to life, and made my girls want to experience it firsthand.

If you love sharing new traditions and cultural celebrations with your children, then you will want to pick up this book in time for Diwali that starts on November 7th.
